This is probably the first thing i've actually been able to make myself in Maya PLE (personal learning edition).

So anyway, i'm new to 3D and have been learning this program on and off for a few weeks now. Pretty complicated at first but i've found to love it. I'm still a newbie, so plz take that into some consideration :). I've learnt stuff through tutorials online. I've found some cartoon characters i liked and tried to make em :) Hope u enjoy.

Sorry for the watermark, hoping to get into a school in 3D in Eastern Australia (not sure which one), and end up purchasing the Student Edition. Oh btw where can i find the australian prices for the products? ( i cant find em )

Wow nice cartoons models for a newbie, im impressed especially the lighting and rendering. Oh and by the way 3D studio max is better.

now you can't say one app is better than another. Maya has its good points. So does Max, and Lightwave, and Blender.

Good work so far. Keep it up.

Eclyps19 its true what you say but maya used to have its good points and now 3ds max have bought out maya so there is no competition, unless autodesk release a new maya (which i doubt).

They are definately going to make a maya 7.5 or 8.0. Autodesk would be idiots not to. Think of all the talented people that have been learning and using maya for years. To just not sell a product that alot of people still want would just be stupid. Anyways the app doesnt matter, what matters is the artist. mystikalz all you should worry about is the techniques. Godd job though.(that watermark really sucks doesnt it).

I really like that yellow helmet dude from mega man. good job. :)

If you're comfortable with maya just stick with it. Maya has a future.

I can't believe you'd make such claims so blindly and seemingly uninformed--Autodesk has stated they are not discontinuing either 3dsmax or Maya anytime soon and if anything will make the integration between thr two applications tighter (meaning we may find ourselves using a new universal file format for both applications)

As for one being better than the other--well we all have our preferences, but it should be obvious all applications are capable of the same things, they just go about them differently; and as someone already said, it's the artist who makes the art, not the application.

There is NO question whether or not Maya has a future, it absolutely does so don't even question it.

mystikalz:
You seem to already have gotten a grip on the Maya interface and some workflow--which is usually the hardest part; I think a lot of beginners avoid Maya because it has such a steep learning curve, and let's be honest--making pretty renders in it isn't as easy as it is for beginners in 3dsmax.

Applications are just a set of tools arranged in a certain way--once you have your modeling/animating/lghting/etc technique down, and what not, switching applications (for a job or something) is just a matter of learning your way around until your technique can flow through your new application.
