View Full Version : Neat Mesh in Maya
Could someone explain to me how they
go about getting a really neat mesh.
I see some of the models posted and
am intrigued by how neat the wireframe is.
I must be doing something wrong because
my mesh always has some areas that look like
they could give Mr.John Nash Jr. himself Nightmares.

That's awfully vague! Show a pic of what you consider "neat," and show one of your meshes.
I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say your models have a lot of non-quad polys. But of course I have no way of knowing!

Gump,
KEYWORD is Edgeloops and modelling with quads. The rest is artistic talent and knowledge of aethetics.
If you always model with quads as a rule...your models will naturally be clean. If you model using edgeloops...which are long continuous edges..your character will be animation friendly.
If you notice the dense meshes, most of them are initially modelled at low poly, following the aformentioned rules...and are then smoothed...which increases the resolution of the mesh....whcich provides a very nice clean mesh.
I am not familiar with edge loops. Could you explain that a bit for me and maybe a brief description on how to do edgeloops?

Gump, the pictures Wigaru posted are by a famous 3d modeller named Bay Raitt....whom was involved in modelling the Cave Troll and Gollem characters. His skills make many a modeller jealous....
