View Full Version : WIP, when masterchief undressed (not really nudity) ...
Wongedan 05-22-2006, 06:38 AM hi , I am currently modelling some masterchief, legs, for human model assignments in school.
Im going to model that leg, combined with male topless human body.
I have to admit that in masterchief character there is a lot of part of the armor I dont really understand what is the function. :(, I tried to gain lot of masterchief references . some if it kinda different each other... aaa
I just finished the legs btw, (im not satisfied with some parts :( )
here is some of my WIP,
http://student.vfs.com/%7E3d60arif/masterchief_wip/wireandrender.jpg
all of those polygons are proxymated (sub_D)
I tried to play with polygons flow to concentrate the details, (I tried to acheive details without having too many polys)
I am not really sure its a good Idea for hardbody stuffs, because some ppl said
concentrating details with flow will have some problem with uv unwrap.
mostly I use double edges (edges that close each other) to make the edges sharper.
http://student.vfs.com/%7E3d60arif/masterchief_wip/underwear.jpg
so because Im not sure what is on the left side of his underwear, its just look like a small pack, so I model some kind of small pack ... hehe
http://student.vfs.com/%7E3d60arif/masterchief_wip/lame1.jpg
otherside :
http://student.vfs.com/%7E3d60arif/masterchief_wip/cons.jpg
Im not really happy with this part ,,, I cant get the "rigid" feels in this part I dunno why. i fell like its still "organic" .. ....
anyway
thats all my current WIP, I ll update soon,
comment and crits are really wellcome :)

I personally think Master Cheif is extremely scared from war/battles, hense the reason he never takes off the mask all that much, even in safety.

Hmm berserk master chief holding two SMGS, walking along the path of battlefield with a 100 convent body lying around....... Yeah jus one thing I like to mention abut the leg armor.. as far as I remember Masters chief's armor the area between the thighs and legs, has some cloth kinda structure than the cylinders... well its completely ur choice to hav wht u like.. I hav jus pointed out the area in the image...

Wow, looks absolutely stunning. Cant wait to see more.
The only thing that troubles me is the calf armour. It seems a bit too tight.

I seriously dont know why they hav given cloth like structure in that area.. may be to make master chief more comfortable and give him some fluency in his movements. I jus got these low poly pics which might help you...

The body looks awesome! Just watch the mirrored areas in regards to the forearm veins. Veins tend to vary a lot from arm to arm.

xvampire,
I am sorry I was not able to get to your thread sooner, but it looks like you have a lot of terrific work here! :)
My main suggestion for upper body model is to make the lower arms a bit less slender and long, they seem a bit disproportionate to the rest of the arm and the torso. Slim the arm at a slightly more gradual rate, it seems to become thin abruptly in the middle of the lower arm and tapers directly into the wrist. Otherwise I would say that things are looking in really good shape. Thank you for inviting me to your thread. :)
Cheers,

Its so he can actually bend his legs.......human body parts dont tend to move well when they can't bend..............

Interesting. The head looks a bit strange in the middle, like a seam, or something. You using a symettry object?

@digital rebelion - (thanks :) )
@cb43569 - yes, its a seperated object.
@smooth criminal - thanks dude, just for now I try to attach everything first, just to see the proportion.
Im gonna detach the head later .. to fix it :)
HI dude,
I really like the legs but not so much the torso.
Check your proportion as you have a problem there (either grow the legs or shrink the torso).
always use reference, even if you are modeling separate pieces.
Proportions and silhoute are key.
The face is suffering from "fish lips" (lol I had the same problem when I started modeling humans).
So pull the corners of the mouth inside a bit, to make it feel more natural.
Im sure the chief is a really tough guy, so I would give him a thick square jaw but without forgeting the chin.
He needs a better defined chin.
I would also define better the clavicle the abs and the brows.
The brow area will give him much more personality.
Keep going man.

whats your reference for the armour look like?

wow, absolutely great! but i agree about the proportions, the body needs to be smaller. no actual modelling work, just scaling should do it.
overcontrast
07-23-2006, 08:18 PM
awesome stuff goin on the futuristic leg armor... but cant really say the same abt the upper organic part... it needs a lot of work IMO. The Torso is too big compared to the legs.... the proportion should be like so: from the tip of the head to the base of the crutch should be the same from crutch to the feet, and, the length from one hand's middle finger to the other hand's middle finger while the arms aare spread apart should be the same as the character's height.
Hope that helps... m waiting to see some amazing stuff from ya pal..... keep it up;)
