View Full Version : Newbie Realistic Female Head
meepins 05-22-2006, 05:16 AM Hi guys. I'm new to 3D modelling, this is my 2nd head so be easy on me! I'm not familiar with the whole facial topogoly, which I'll need help with. I've just done the eye and the nose. I'm not really sure how to extend to make the cheeks at this stage, the eye area and the nose area seems unbalanced. Do you have some pointers?
Thanks Alot!

you should be able to find it on face tutorials on different sites... i'll look on my computer when i get home, think i have a link, but anyhow, if this is your second head, it's allready turning out nice... by the way not sure what software u are using, but if it is lightwave then there is a mirror function that makes it easier for you to model, you only model one half of the face, but it looks like it's 3dsmax so, i don't know... i'm a blender user, so i really don't know... long time since i used max... good luck, and it is looking promising ;)

hi there<
looks nice on the eyes, you can give some more details for eye lid, but dont worry for now :)
if you want to make some propotional cheek , draw some curve, grab some rference and draw some curve on front vewport, now you can get some cheek reference
to make a cheek maybe you can selectsome of the edges in the bottom of the eyes and extrude it? thats gonna be fine I think, and slice the poly into several pieces.then connect it to the side of the nose
just make sure, get some reference, thats the only way to get the right proportion,

Yeah, I'm using 3dsmax 7 atm. I'm using the mirror function except, I've attached both sides for the quick render.
I tried drawing some curves but I don't know how to the polys would connect front the nose (high poly) area to cheek (low poly) area.
I've working on the model a little more this morning. The cheeks and the lips didn't come out so good so I just extended the forehead. the cheek and the lower eye area is kind of bumpy, I'm still not too sure how I'll go about making the cheek.

two things i noticed off the bat:
1 - the part where the eyelids meet near the nose actually follows the nose bridge a bit. In your model, it is wrapping around the eye. I hope thats clear.
2 - the upper eyelid overlaps the lower one on the outside of the eye.

You've got good line flow around the eyes, but I can see it won't be good around the mouth. There should be a loop going from on top of the nostril curving all the way around the mouth. Your loops at the nostril are going around the eyes instead. It's still very early and easy to fix. Hope you could understan the point I was trying to illustrate. And another thing, the forehead in the areas above each eye goes back too fast compared to the area of the forehead in the centre. Just push it forward a bit. You can see what I mean in the three quarter view how it's on too much of a slope. The nostrils are a bit too sharp, just soften the edges of them a bit.
Good work though.
Keep it up.
