Okay, I finally finished a car I've been working on. Modeled in Maya, rendered in Max. Please let me know what you think.

The car seems to be smooth modeled but I think you can change something with the camera position to avoid the huge shadow at the back of the car. I would like to see the front of the car.

and the crome at the eheels seems a little bit to shiny.

but the car itself is a great piece of modeling.

3 stars from me (if I could give them :) :applause: )

here's an older render. which do you like? the light or the dark environment?

I like the lighter version myself...black in a dark room hides all the wonderful details you put into your model...

in the dark environment the wheels look better. I think when you render the back of the car in the dark environment it would look more "evil" because of the red lights . you could render the car in a dark environment (a dark street would be great) moving away from the camera. the whole thing rendered with motionblur and the red backlights surely will look great. :)

Aurelius: i know what you mean about the wheels. i love them in the dark scene, but they are too bright and shiny in the light environment. i will work on that today. oh yeah, good idea on the street scene by the way. ive been looking at some car commercials to get ideas for camera movements. but i think i want the car moving, instead of just spinning on a turntable. this is for my reel, and i dont have much time, so it all depends on what i can get done. ill keep your suggestion in mind though. thank you for the ideas

hey, that's funny that the car is for your demo reel. Ihave the same problem, too. I only have to finish my demoreel in late summer 2003 an it will be for the art&design school :) . Thats why I have so much ideas about environments for cars ;) but I try to model a Audi A8 :) I hope that I can make that thing nearly as perfect as your car :)

AWSOME WORK!!! great modeling. but i am going to have to agree that in the dark image the rims look really good but in the lighter image i think the rims are a little bit too BLING BLING you know what i mean DOG, hehe. Also the brake pads are a little bit too bright. other than that Shit is hot. Keep up the good work:buttrock:

It looks to be perfectly modeled,(maybe the roof line looks a little hi in the front) I think the renders are detracting from a great model. A black car with a dark environment, maybe it's just my monitor, but it's kinda hard to really see that beautiful model. I would like to see a render with some good lighting, and a lighter background so I can really get a sense of what I am looking at.

new renders will be here tonight with a new aesthetically pleasing environment. :buttrock:

what a light mesh!!!! any interior?

slice56
01-08-2003, 04:19 PM
HapZungLam: i would love to model the interior, but unfortunately i dont have the time right now. maybe once i get out of school i will. the model is a little over 28,000 polys. the main reason for that is the rims and tires. i modeled the tread on the tire, and it alone was around 2k each tire. anyway, im thinking of posting just a GI pic of the car, so you can see the details of the model. check back in the next hour or so :)

Remi
01-08-2003, 04:27 PM
GI would make it look alot better I think...also maybe try some different colors...Orange, Silver, Forest Green or maybe somethng that hasn't been seen before...use your imagination:thumbsup:

BTW...I gave you 4 stars...would've been 5 if it was lit a little better...

Also...you might want to be careful about posting to many images here...you're thread might get removed....just a sugg:shrug:

01-08-2003, 04:32 PM
thank you very much. it will be MUCH better tonight. you will see :D

btw, i deleted a few of the pics on the first page. hehe, sorry for that. i was just trying to show the angles of the car :)

even though my wisdom tooth is coming in...im going to reply...i think the rims look just fine...if you've seen some sparkling rims...you'll agree they can in fact look like that.sick model and wisdom teeth are the worst thing in creation.

try getting them removed and then you can talk....:surprised

hey remi, what 3d prog do you use? im using max to render, and was wondering how to get a nice colored paint for my car. i tried to use the material i made, and change the color on it, but it only looks good black. any ideas, or sample mat's i can look at so i know how to create a nice paint material for brazil?

arrrgh, that car makes me sick, think the next time we are in class I might delete it for you. LOL Great job and now you put the pressure on me to finish up the Belair....
As Jeremy said " Do you think you can teach us your skilz"

Smooth. Very nice model. good work.
:applause:

I think the shape of the car is getting to undefined because of to complex reflections. Is there something you can do with the surroundings to make reflection a bit less dominant?

slice56

there is nothing really in the surrounding area of the car. all there is in the scene is:

car
ground plane
ceiling with holes in it
light bars above ceiling so light comes thru the wholes
the environment color is white

any ideas mirmax? please AIM me: slice56

thank you!

use to use max 1.2 now im a waver...i really don't remember enough about the programs surfacing params to help you there...sorry...just keep tweaking till you get it...if you model that well im sure you can figure out a simple color change...I have faith in you....good work regardless slice...best 350z i've seen...front page material:thumbsup:

Hey slice!

very nice model you have there, the 300zx is my favorite car, but the 350 is slowly creaping up on it!

perhaps you could write a small tutorial on how you got the painted metallic look? it would be very much appreciated!

cheers,

Entangle

very nice and shinny :)

Is that a wheel im seeing from thru the inside of the grill?

slice56
01-08-2003, 08:24 PM
hehe, yes it is. i wasnt sure if i should just put up something black behind the grille to black or not. now that you mention it, that does look weird. fixing for final renders coming tonight :)

thx lukashi

Nice model.... Even though I never click on these damn car model threads, I couldn't help it because I love Nissan and I happened to have the September issue of Motor Trend magazine sitting on my desk (which features the 350z). Your model's really accurate, but I just can't help but point out a couple things that I think would make it a lot better :

1. The bottom of the side window doesn't curve upwards nearly as much as you have it, if at all.

2. The top of the car isn't curved quite so much along its width (horizontally from the front view, I mean).

These two things just bothered me because it makes it look as if there's no room for a person to fit inside the car. Oh yeah, and the tires look a little too thin. But now I'm nitpicking... anyways, it's the first impression that counts, and my first impression was "och! so perfect!"

Kogepan: Thank you for the input. I see what you mean, and I will fix that as well tonight.

Well, you already know that I think this a great piece, David, but I thought I'd post my praise here too! :applause:

A fantastic model! I am looking forward to seeing it in a new environment too :)
