is there a spin quad tool available for maya that spins the edge between to quads like it does in lightwave?

There isn't one that I have found and I was going to write one. However after studying what the spin quads tool does in lightwave I'm not going to bother now. For what spin quads does you can delete an edge and split a new one to get the same effect. I figured it would take me thousands of edge delete/splits before I would see any time advantage to sitting down and writing a script to "spin quads". I can see how spin quads evolved in a modeler like LW which has no edges and such funtionality would be very difficult to do "manually". But in a modeler like Maya you may be "spinning quads" and not even know it.

Why use Maya at all for modeling? If you want the Lightwave modeling workflow; use Lightwave. :-)

I model everything in Lightwave and simply export it to Maya.

Maya should have a Spin Quads. Just deleting and edge and making a new one is just way too tedious. Hell, you could do the exact same thing in LW--it has nothing to do with being and edge modeler.

Spin Quads was created to make edge looping easier and much faster. You just select polygons and hit the Spin Quads tool until you get your polys. flowing the right way.

yikes

if i had lightwave i would use it for modeling.
and i know that i can do it manually but it would be nice to have such feature. in maya there is only "flip triange edge".
it's a feature that would be nice to be seen in mjpolytools or something like that.
with this tool cou could try different ways how your edges flow whithout having to do it by hand

What's the difference between Maya's Flip Triangle Edge and LW's Spin Quad? They sound like they do the same thing.

It would take no time to make a script that spin a edge.. I don't see it as very importent tool, that's why i haven't created it yet.

spin quad IS the same as flip triangle edge....if you havent tried it yet...press the "o" key and you get all of the tools relevant to polys as a marking menu...with this you can use the artisan tool spin the quads

as i often model organic stuff i find it more comfortable to just hit i hotkey and it turns the edge than manually delete the old one end spit it by hand. and when i want to try different ways i have to go through this procedure every time

how can i access this marking menu if the outliner is on "o" like in my case?
flip triangle edge only works for triangles

as are all things in Maya,,,,there are many ways to do this. reset your hotkeys to defaults....which would delete your custom hotkeys. OR open the Windows/Settings/ hotkey editor and assign the PolyBrushMarkingMenu script(only available in 4.5!!) in the Artisan category to your desired hotkey.

Another option is to just add your desired menu item to the shelf....or even as a hotkey

i'm using 4.0, but had the chance look into 4.5 and didn't see it there. would be fine to have this in 4.0 to
