View Full Version : WIP BladeII - Weapon - Modelskin
JonasNoell 01-08-2003, 12:52 PM Hello everyone!
I am currently working for a skin for this (http://www.gfx-center.de/anderefiles/battery/indexbat/blade_skin2.jpg) lowpoly weapon. You might recognize it out of the cinema film Blade 2. Here (http://www.blade2.com/html/images/2nd_concept-art_art_03.jpg) is how the concept artist from Blade 2 drove it.
My job is to do a propper skin for the model. I tried to make it look quite like real chrome, do you think I reached this goal?
Here is the WorkInProgress-Shot

Critics please! Thanks and out

Looks pretty darn good to me, though I don't know about texturing... one complaint though-- why is the picture you posted so heavy? It took forever to load!

Thanks for your critic. I don't know why the picture took so long to load, maybe the server is busy at the moment. I'm sorry for that...

Here is a later WIP. The grey parts in the back of the gut still need a skin.
My intention was to make a real photorealstic skin, up to now I'm quite satisfied for this simple renderer. Some parts need some overwork, thogh.

Thanks in advice, greetings and out...

Yah, it was just the server... silly me.
That thing is looking awesome! One question though-- why are the symbols written on it outlined in white? They look painted on, are they supposed to be, or are they etched?

can you explain how you got that brushed metal look or do you have a tutorial? is it just using layer masks or what...

Gnarly Cranium: You are right. Originally they should look etched, I need to overwork. It's that I firstly recieved the model yesterday and did the skin already 2 days before. I have to work for the details now...
requiem: No, it is not that simple how you explained it. Everything is actually handdrawn. For the whole skin up to now I needed about 6 hours, it really needs its time till you get the finished result. I furthermore payed long attention to reference pics.
Well, I have a Tutorial about skinning metal up in the texturesection (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36000). But I must claim, that the tutorials I made are ways easer than making real brushed metal, just try it out, you will get common with the basics.
