View Full Version : Edge Looped Modeled Male
IGlowInTheDark 05-21-2006, 04:22 AM I've been making this model for the past 2 or 3 weeks. Not the first I've made, but definatly the best so far. I know there are still problems in the back/back arm areas but those will be covered up when I'm done. What do you guys think? And this the first time I post some of my work, so be gentle.

Small update, I posted some wireframes, and noticed the triceps are too low, the forearms a just a little too thick and I will pull out the stomach some more to flatten out the abs/rib line a little more.

I touched up the triceps, biceps, forearms, abs, chest, and thighs a bit. I think thats all I'm going to do body wise for now. I'm hoping to use the cloth mod to add clothes tomorrow:

looks pretty good pump up the smoothin itarations a lil more cuz it looks a lil dusjunct in some spots however i dunno if it's mesh problems or just you don't have it smooth enough. however nice topology it looks like

Added cloth (Nothing complex, just what's needed), next steps will be texturing, that will be done in a little while. Any critiques until then?

Great model, the muscles are brilliant but the neck doesnt look right, its a bit too long and a bit too wide, eventhogh it matches the reference picture, the neck doesnt look too good.

not bad...it seems to me that the position of the arm is wrong.

The reference picture you have is not suitable for the pose you are modeling. When you have your arms raised the entire shoulder area raises too. Right now the arms are far too low, which in turn makes the neck look too long even though you've copied exactly like from the picture. The tricep muscles look too flat, and the muscle grooves too deep, actually there is far too much definition there compared to the rest of the body. The rear shoulders need much more mass too. The groove in the calves is a bit too strong and likewise with the back of the thigh.
It's still early and you've done fine so far, you be the judge on what to fix.
Keep up the good work!

I tweaked the shoulders, back and triceps:
Rotated and raised the arms as much as I could without destroying the mesh (it looks a little better):

Top view, before (right) and after (left). I asked a friend who has better knowlegde of muscular scale and he said the right one looks more natual, while left looks like it's flexing. I'm keeping the bigger one, it shows power:

Back view, before and after:

Triceps with new cloth added:

This is going to be the final one, I have to finish my other models. Thanks again for all the input, I'll post back when he's textured.

I've seen this video tutorial, you've skipped over a few parts too, and the reason why your models traps are so tall along with a thick neck is because he skipped over the part where he modeled in the neck area. You're also putting to much into trying to line things up into the image planes as oppose to trusing your eye... Example you typically only see upperbodies having more mass than lower bodies to the point where its obvious in gym rats that go to the gym and only work out their upper body every day such as arms chest and back, your model has that look, his legs are very thin compaired to his upper body, also your poly flow is a bit different than how its done in the tutorial and the face is way off. It's not bad if this is your first model but I advise you to go back and view the video again puase a lot and think about what your modeling, use other images for ref not just the image planes. It's not bad for a 2nd time around in general but if you watched the videos this model should have been a lot better

face is way off.Personal interpretation.

the arm/ wrist area needs work, i think theres something wrong with it, maybe too short? the hands/ fingers needs work too, the shoulder area needs work too, i think its too low, but youre there already, good job;)

Here he is textured. Just a warning, I HATE photoshop! There is nothing great about the texturing, I hate it but I have over 60 more to texture in the next 2 and half weeks. And this guy is going into Unreal. His eyes are closed cause he will be sleeping, and he will only be seen for about 5-7 seconds. Total triangles: 19749, mostly in the shirt and pants. The last screen as about how close I'll get to him in game.
