Hi folks!

I was wondering if you can help me out of this problem. I got a scene here and am searching for a better light-effect and a much more movie-like look. My scene:

Besides the fact that the hammer (yes, it's supposed to be one, don't hit me ;) ) does really not look that good - I'll replace it with something more fitting - and there are some problems with the gras-meshes, this is the effect I want to achieve:

First of all, the DOF doesn't work properly. I tried to zoom to the ground and let the foreground be blurred, but it didn't work! A problem that is well known, I guess, I read about the max scanline renderer ****ing up the DOF. Second and more important: The stones and environment in the flower-image look like glowing where ever the sun hits them. This adds almost all of the cool atmosphere and really makes the scene look dusty and less artificial. How do I achieve these visuals?

Thx in advance

You may want to try a different render engine. Brazil r/s...finalRender...I believe there is a free demo of vray there. Your going the wrong way with depth of field. Add a camera and open up the camera modify menu. If you scroll down this menu you will see Multi pass effect. In the pull down should be an option for depth of field. Make sure to enable Multi-pass effect and play around with the options in the - Depth of field params until you get something that you like.

Might also want to do this in wire mode depeding on how monster your machine is. Uping the passes adds for a a better depth of field but for each frame it will take longer to render. I'm not to keen on this option used it here and there. May want to look up a tut.

What wrong with your hammer? I like it.

Thanks for your quick response. Yes, I'll try brazil sometime, much better render-quality.

The way you described the camera-DOF with multi-pass works great, thank you very much! Concerning the time for each pass, I don't care much, the result is much better that way and I have lotsa time to waste ;)

Do you really like the hammer? Well, the textures aren't mine, they are from Unreal Tournament 2003. The model has amazing 500 polys and looks like a big block of stone :D So I'll probably replace it with some kind of more fitting stuff, like an helmet of something. It's really hard to get the hammer into the rendering without missing important parts. I was unable to fit it into the rendering...

Thanks again, I'll show off the final pic sometime
