View Full Version : MAX5 crowd problem

Hi all,

I need some help on max 5 crowd system ....
Well, everything is fine when I work only with bipeds, just like discribed in the cs tuts. Now the problem is when I try to copy the mesh and the biped together (want to make 10 copies of the character), max crashes ( an error has occured ...) :annoyed:
I tried to group the biped and the mesh, but when I try to clone it, max goes down again...

Any help/tips would be much appreciated

How many poly's does the mesh have?

Null, the mesh has 10k polys with meshsmooth turned off.
I solved the problem with array tool, works fine, and max stays alive :)
The only problem left is that the physique goes wrong when I connect the bipeds to the crowd delegates.
So at the moment I`m trying to reinitialize all the physiques and to set up crowd again, so we`ll see....
Do you know the wright procedure on this ?

You're a brave man for trying to work with the CS crowd-tools. Feel quite free to keep us posted on the progress and the end-results.

I've never accomplished anything cool wrestling with those features, and I'd just like to see someone succeed with it one day :)

Sorry I'm out of the loop on this one. Is that a standard mod you are using this crowd control? Or is it a plug-in that comes with max or do you have to buy it? Or is it a script??

I try to set up max5 crowd system with cs biped....
It seems there is a big problem with physique and crowd, because when I load single bip file onto my skinned hero, everything works fine, but when I multiply the mesh with biped (tried only 6 copies), connect it with crowd delegates, and load the same bip file in the shared motion flow, the whole mesh goes jerky :bounce:
It is very, very annoying , what else to say ....

when I did the flocking galimimus dino's in the jurassic park3 FMV, I ended up loading a scene with just one dino to start with and merged that into its self, saved that one and merged it back in again, saved, merged etc. until I got enuff. I found it works a lot nicer this way. CS doesn't seem to like cloning bipeds and physiqued meshes

gaggle- I ended up being able to get the crowd stuff to work- eventually. And I tell you it was not a fun experience AT ALL. But it turned out OK in the end and there is no way that we would have been able to do it without crowd. I'm hoping that CS4 and crowd is less painful.

Now I`ll try to merge the character 10 times, just have to ask you how did you solve the renaiming problem?
I know this can be done manually .....

renaming can be done with object utils from blur http://www.max3d.com/plugins/r4/ObjUtil.zip
Don't forget that you need blurlib to use blur plugz http://www.max3d.com/plugins/r4/blurlib.zip

Anyway, I solved the problem with array tool, I dont know how, but it works :)
Just put 50 characters to run over the hill :)
