i have 2 gigs of ram. i have literally nothing else running on my computer. my memory usage is down to like 20%. basically, everything on my system is running absolutely fine. i never have any memory problems with anything, ever. nothing.

but randomly while using photoshop cs2, during something completely trivial like selecting a brush and dabbling on the canvas, i'll start getting messagebox errors saying "not enough ram". if i try and save, it won't let me save, and gives me the error. doing basically anything will prompt the error.

i had photoshop's memory usage set to like 55% originally..so i lowered it to like 40%.. restarted..same problems... lowered to like 30%..same problems. raising the memory to something crazy like 70% does the same thing.

so what the hell is the deal? ive NEVER had memory errors from CS2 before having 2 gigs of ram.. is cs2 just incompatible with this magic number of ram? what are my options?

also yes, i have more than sufficient scratch space and whatnot. basically, my computer runs like a freaking workhorse, so i have no idea why cs2 has all of these problems.. meanwhile, my After Effects 7 and premiere pro 2.0 never give me one bit of trouble, ever. wtf??

Sounds like it has to do with Photoshop itself rather than your computer. You might want to try reinstalling PS, if the problem persists, maby your RAM isnt compatible with PS? o_O Which sounds absurd yet i cant think of anything else.

when i got CS1 and then winXP i was told that XP didnt exactly like anything over 1.5gb ram, something to do with how it recognises ram allocation.

I didnt have to do it, cus it didnt have any problems, but it had something to do with changing the system start up command line in a notepad file when XP initialises....this was like 2yrs ago, so i cant really remember.

But i bet this is your problem.

How many history (undo) levels do you have set? When I've worked on large files in the past it's required purging undos frequently to keep from running out of ram... I doubt this is your problem, but who knows. Hope this helps

You know something, i been reading that people have problems with this Photoshop cs2 who got like ram from 1 gb upwards and they give thier specs and their machine is powerful. What i find strange is that i think i must have the worse system than any of ya, Im running a Athlon Sempron 2400+ processor 1.67Ghz, 512mb of ram and i have other stuff running in the background and photoshop cs2 works fine for me, no crashes, sluggishness or nothing that is real strange
