View Full Version : Simple PS7 Filter Application - Please Critique
singularity2006 01-08-2003, 07:42 AM After suffering from much designer's block, I could not figure out a new method of designing a wallpaper using BoA, everyone's favorite new korean pop star. ^.^" So I resorted to a technique that I became quite fond of when I first began using PS several years ago. I have fine tuned the pencil sketch technique slightly since then. What do ya'll think?

Photoshop is fun. Especially when you get into making your own actions.
In your picture here, I like the style of everything except the face. What I mean is, it seems like everything got stylized except for the face. Was it masked?

i think you should stay away from photoshop filters and work more with masks, transferes and opacities. they will give a much more individual look to you pieces. everyone can spot a photoshop filter from a thousand yards, and most aren't too impressed when they do.
hope this helps.

Its strange that Photoshop, being as professional-orientated as it is, has all these filters that are almost considered "Stay away from them". Just thought it was funny... If a fairly decent artist knows that they can easily be recognized, why are they even there? I mean, I don't think I use any myself. Just a thought...

I think their usefulness comes into play when used as just one part of altering an image, i.e. -- using them with masks on specific areas, fading and blending them with other layers, using several in combination with non-standard setting to achieve a specific look you're after, etc, etc. Not to mention all the additional custom filters out there. What people recognize as a stock photoshop filter is when you just use one filter on the whole image, and boom, you're done.

Yes indeed Psyhke,
I hate those crappy images who are 'overfiltered'... :annoyed:
Not that this one is overfiltered ;) but I still don't like it...
Try to be more creative, making nice images is more than knowing the 'coollooking' filters...
