Laika Entertainment is currently looking for a Supervising Pipeline Technical Director for It’s Research & Development Department.
The Pipeline Technical Director, Research and Development, is responsible for the creation of tools, pipelines and specialized shaders for film production. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing tools to assist in the movement of assets from modeling to animation, rendering, and production tracking.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify, design, and develop software solutions to production problems.
- Work with pipeline TD Group and Software Group to identify areas of future development.
- Support the modeling, setup, animation, translation, and rendering pipelines.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Windows NT and Linux/Unix operating environments.
- Experience in MEL and Perl (or Python) scripting.
- Background in computer programming preferably in C or C++.
- Knowledge of network rendering, system set up, hardware and software and files management.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- At least 5 years experience as a Technical Director.
- Four year degree in Computer Graphics or Computer Animation or higher or commensurate experience in entertainment/production environments.
- Working knowledge of MTOR/Renderman.
- Development experience with Qt.
- 2-5 years working in a feature film production environment.

Laika Entertainment, based in Portland Oregon, is currently in production on several animated feature films including: Neil Gaiman’s “Coraline” , directed by Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and The Giant Peach); and “Jack & Ben”, created, written and directed by Jorgen Klubien (Cars, Monsters Inc, Toy Story 2, A Bug’s Life, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid).
