is there any way to import max scenes or objects with bones and animations and materials into cinema? i know it works with .3ds format, but that doesnt include the bones (as far as i know)
does anyone know??

AFAIK there is no way of doing this. Max is a format specific to that software, whereas 3DS is more of a generic format.
It's not only bones and animation that is non-transferrable; just getting a simple Max object into C4D is impossible too. Great, eh?
