Hi all,
many of you will have noticed the new TP Presets available from Maxon
ftp://ftp.maxon.net/pub/download/lib/thinking_particles_presets_v2.zip
Different to the old presets there is now a html documentation available for the new ones.
ftp://ftp.maxon.net/pub/download/lib/TPPresets2Manuals.zip (23 MB)
It includes several examples on how to use and combine the presets.

Hope this helps
Björn

Hi Srek - thanks for these, it's good to see how these things should be done properly!

One thing - in the 'RollingEmitter' scene file, I think there's a scale problem; with the scene as it is the pyrocluster effect is huge, I have to back right off to see anything, at first all I got was a yellow screen which was a bit confusing ;)

With the particles size set to 2 or 3 it renders fine.

Cheers - Chris

Yes, particle size is a bit of a nuisance. This concept comes straight from TP for max and i still haven't got a clue why cebas implemented it this way and what defaults are meant to be used.

is this update any different from other earlier versions of TP presets (like 9.1) or is it just to accomodate the new browser in 9.5?

Srek

It's a completely new set of presets.

Ah-ha, okay, but its a library/browser thing for 9.5 and up only right? Won't work in 9.1?

Yes and no. The library needs 9.5 but the examples are simple files you can load in 9.1

Sounds nice but I just can't afford to buy anything any more.

The presets are free and if you don't have 9.5 you can still load the examples in the documentation to gain access to the presets.

No no, that's fine I DO have 9.5 - I just can't afford to upgrade to 9.6

If I ever do manage to save anything I think I'll want to buy BodyPaint 2.5 next.

Er... well I've downloaded the two zip files... only how do I use them? i.e. where do I unzip them TO?

And once unzipped, how do I access them? I mean is it a) a file/prog you double click on in Explore or b) do you find it from somewhere inside Cinema itself, and if b) where?

9.6 is free for all 9.5 users, just download it from the Maxon website.

Good grief! Is it really? Heavens, I wonder why Maxon don't let their customers know about such stuff.

Thanks for telling me.

Er... any hints on how to use those presets? Like where to put them once unzipped etc...?

It's a lib4d file and belongs in the library/browser folder. Alternatively you can simply doubleclick the file when in the content browser.
As for 9.6, it was announced on the Maxon website and release was mentioned several times here on CG Talk.

Thanks.

As for 9.6 I had heard people talking about it but no one mentioned it was a free update and as I don't read absolutely everything in the forums and hardly ever go to Maxon - since I'm skint - well... I missed it.

Never mind, I know now, thanks to you.:bounce:
