Title: The Site
Name: Mike Lynch
Country: USA
Software: LightWave 3D, Photoshop, Vue
I wanted to create a dreamy/unreal quality to the scene, and chose to do this through the use of color and light.
The pillars were modeled in Lightwave and textured in Vue 5 Infinite. Color adjustments, and diffused light were all handeled in Photoshop post-render.
C&C is welcome.

I really like! I think you could use some grass or bushes or something at the base of the pillars though to help their intergration into the rest of the world. Nice look!

You have a very good point about the grass/plants around the pillars.
Thanks I appreciate that.

Not all environmental scenes have that grainy pixelated look. It's usualy due to a render setting (or settings). I'm assuming that you're referring to the grainines o fthe image in its lower portions. I think that's due to a combination of the bump map height applied to the ground and moss textures, as well as a render setting.
Thanks for pointing that out... I'll see about reducing that.

I've added brush and some additional random rock formations to the terrain. I'm tweaking the textures for the creeping moss as we speak (aside from being too course, I don't like how high it goes on the smaller pillars). I should have a new image to post soon... Vue estimates the render time and 20 hours (...even with a quad core) - so it may be a couple of days before I have an update to post for review.
Thanks for all of the feedback so far.

The updated version is posted at the top of the thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=3558305&postcount=1). I replaced the previous scene.
I added brush and rocks to the terrain, as well as reducing the altitude of the moss on the pillars to something a little more realistic. I also reduced the bump height on the texture used for the moss and much of the terrain since it was a little too pronounced.
This version is also much heavier in contrast. I beefed it up to help with some of the detail, since I felt that the scene suffered from too even of a tonality. I also increased the color saturation to make the image feel a bit more dream-like and less grounded in complete reality.
As always: comments and critiques are welcome.
