Position: Environment Artist, PSP Project
Location: San Diego, CA
Sony Online is looking for an experienced Environment Artist to join its PSP development group. SOE’s PSP division is dedicated to creating innovative and successful IPs for the platform. We have already developed the successful Untold Legends Action RPG franchise and the highly anticipated turn based strategy game Field Commander. We are currently looking for a highly motivated and effective individual who wants to be part of a team creating fresh intellectual property for an action-arcade style game for the PSP.
Basic Requirements:
• An Associates Degree or Certification in Art or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Prior experience in modeling and texturing environments and props; a minimum of one complete game cycle is required.
• Solid knowledge of all modeling, texturing and lighting tools and techniques in 3D Studio Max, A|W Maya or a similar package.
• Ability to design, model and texture high-quality level architecture, props and geographic features in a variety of styles and polygon resolutions.
• A strong understanding of games and game level design
General Responsibilities:
• Effectively model high-quality organic and non-organic models in low, medium and high polygon counts within any manner of established art direction.
• Understands judicious polygon usage, clean mesh topology and efficient UV layout strategies.
• Demonstrates mastery of 3D lighting techniques for realism, style and effect.
• Works well within technical limitations, follows provided art direction, delivers game-ready graphics and contributes to technical and artistic problem-solving sessions.
• Accurately estimates the time required to complete tasks, manages time effectively and meets all project deadlines while delivering consistently high-quality and immersive environments.
Desirable qualifications:
• Environment concept design and finish rendering skills using Photoshop and/or Painter.
• Cinematic staging and storyboarding skills
• PSP development experience.
All resumes must be accompanied by a demo reel, CD/DVD or website portfolio with ample game-ready samples. Applicants should expect to take a basic skills test in Maya as part of the interview process.
