Hey all,

Take a looksy at this.
I played around with a tutorial I did in class and came up with this.

Any suggestions on improving it.

Also, how can I get rid of the banding on the gorund,
I increased the shadow map resolution but that didn't change it much.

- Kevin, really getting into 3d stuff.

making me thirsty, nice work :bounce:

if you mean that coloured banding, it kind of looks like jpg compression problems, if you have photoshop try using save for web and use maximum quality compression ( if you've already done that I dunno what the problem is :D )

Hehe.

Well the banding there is actually jpg banding (well spotted BTW), but there was shadow banding in the original.

I photoshopped all the banding out but then when I exported it there was banding again. I guess the jpg compressor picked up on stuff the eye couldn't see: :annoyed:
Also, I just realised, that this:  probably should've been in my first post. ;) hehe

Makes me too thirsty! Not fair posting something like that while I am still here at school...arrg (I should have taken "Brew Masters 101").

Very nice work though. For me the only thing that really stands out is that there is only that one, stark area light hanging out. If that is what you are going for then you did a nice job.

How did you do the head? Did you use two different objects?

It's made up of 3 parts.

The liquid with black texture.
The side part of the head: white texture.
And another part of the head for the top: white with bump map (because I couldn't figure how to just apply the bump to the top without it streaking down the sides)

Yea, the reflection is actually just a lrge luminant plane off camera.
It does looka little off. I was trying ot simulate this kind of effect:

Maybe I should just make the object a lot taller.

You can always make one object for the head. Make it editable (polygons). Select just the polygons for the top "bubbles" and then go to "Selection>Set Selection" from the menu. The new selection will show up to the right of your "head" object as a little red triangle. Name it "bubbles" or something. Repeat this process for the non-bubbles part of the head and call it "foam" or something. Now make a white foam texture and call it "foam_tex". Then duplicate it, add the bump channel, and call it "bubbles_tex". OK...almost there. Now drop both new materials onto your "head" object. In each material tag next to the "head" object you will find a field that reads "restrict selection to". Restrict the "bubbles_tex" tag to "bubble" (without quotes) and the "foam_tex" tag to "foam".

I hope that made sense.

If you notice in that pic there are actually 2 lights visible in the reflection ( there are more than likely 3 or more) Try adding another panel on the opposite side and streched in the y axis, making it as tall as the glass. Then drop it's luminace down to about half. Some other, overall lighting may be needed but it still looks great!

Makes me sad. The only place in town that served this closed up.

Yours looks very good.

The original banding looks like it is casued by underexposure. I think you just plain don't have enough light there.

You should leave the area light (maybe put a map on it to simulate a window) then you'll need a fill light to simulate light bouncing around in the environment - Like VestanPance said, make it 1/3 to 1/2 the brightness of the main light and on the other side of the camera and a bit higher. This light should cast no specular and no shadows. You could then mabe add some blue to the main light (to make it look like light from outside) or red to make it look like it is lit from inside.

this is very good especially foam.
would like a bit more light on it all...say bottom right area....but...this is just a preference.
nice work
