I like 3d a lot and am a beginner at Maya.
One little question:
Why Maya,with any Detonator version,is a little bit slower at 1280*960 than at 1280*1024 ??? :surprised
Normally smaller resolution are faster?
Ok just a little question, of no big interest maybe :hmm: but...

some resolutions are optomized... like.. certain resolutions will cause games or programs under those resolutions to just chug...
things like... 1600x900 which is widescreen...
if i am correct... certain resolutions will work better than others... ::shrug::

You must be right.
I've tested, and 1152*864 is even more slower !
The bad thing is that in 1280 (where I've got optimal) one of my 2 17" loses a lot of focus.
So it's harder to see what's written on the menu...
To remedy, I could use 1024, but with Maya...:thumbsdow
But...
This is not this "problem" which will decide whether or not I can do great things in Maya !

Some related advice here - be careful with screen resolutions, you should remember that they're not all the same pixel aspect ratio. 1280x1024 is a nice resolution but it's not going to give you square pixels on a normal monitor, while 1280x960 does. This means if you work at 1280x1024 and then view your renders at 1280x960 (or 1024x768, 1600x1200 etc. - i.e. square pixel ratios), the image will look stretched vertically.
I think 1280x1024 is meant for flat-panel displays?
We had a guy at work that had been working on personal projects at home for six months like this, without realising it. It was only when he brought his stuff into work and looked at it on a 1600x1200 screen that he found out. Imagine how happy he was when he realised six months worth of models and animations ALL had to be scaled vertically :eek: Well it made us laugh anyway :D

I've been using that res for some time now and i don't see any performance difference between this and 1024x768. The pixel aspect ratio is the same.

Hmmm, interesting. I never thought about how it didn't display 1280x1024 resolution as square pixels. I was so used to working at 1024x768.
Anyways, now I'm assuming that TV's display square pixels right??? *sigh*
However, I find it wierd that on the Viewsonic site, if you look at the comparision chart on their CRT monitors, they list optimum screen resolutions. Some of them for 19" monitors are 1280x1024. Strange.
Anyone have more info?
