looking really nice y@. I totally love rhino made cars. Nurbs make them look so smooth. Good job on the scene too. Cant wait for more updates.

can you tell me how are you importind the models into 3dsmax ?
please share details if you're using nurbs geometry

EighthDecay

well the scene was all low poly mesh from a 3DS file,, I usually use IGES files either default settings or MAX3 setting,, but my MAX doesn't like this car,, there must be some setup on the nurbs that it doesn't like. So I'm setting up some layers in MAX5 and placing all the mesh geometry und the layers and turning them off and on when I need them,, so I can select a bunch of different objects on different layers,, for materials and such.

thanks, well that's strange on max's part... i've almost never encuntered problems on my nurbs imported geometry. the dowside of max is that it's veryyyyyy slow at handling high detail nurbs models... so i have a 270000 poly's wheel rim (rim - if i'm wrong please correct me :) ) not that big of a problem for my graphic card i should say but i have a 512 sdram system and it's just impossible to work on it with max (multiply that by four if you want a four wheel car) :)

My car was getting around 1,000,000 poly's

here is a tire i was messing with

EightDecay - how's that ? you said it was low poly most of

EighthDecay

um I said the scene is,, just a few boxes without any tops or bottoms,, not sure how ,many poly's it is,

here is a little test,, going to deepen the paint more, I think it needs more dark red in it.

one thing i bet would help in your model is the addition of division lines where the panels and parts meet. right now the car looks like one big hunk of plastic. also some minor contrasting lines may give it shape and help get rid of the brick look

i'm sorry, after looking at the wireframe view i noticed that the lines are in fact there - but are very very difficult to see in your rendered view... perhaps make them bigger

EighthDecay

yeah they are there,, still working on the material,, its pissing me off right now,, hehe thanks bud,, chunky car huh, like a brickk,, ahahah your funny.

Modeling is great man - as usual ;).

But hey do you really want this car paint in PINK color :)?? are you sure that this is best color for race/concept cars ?

EighthDecay

Thanks lewis,

Pink wasn't quite what I was after I'm still tweekin it, I want a plum red and the lighting kinda burned it out,, gotta fuss with the reflections some more and going to try some new things in that aspect.

hehe com on now its Magenta,, hehe not pink,, lol

Hmmmm, wait to see a bigger Image :)

I'm suprised that U put a Racing Wing on a Car. Is that a Race Car?

Today performance comes mostly with integrated wings...See new Ferrari's, Lotus etc.

Only a idea.

Cya.

yeah yeah Dan,, I did put that there for the fun of it,, little rice look to it,, also a big fatt Fart can tail pipe.. hehe

I'll probably build a nice fiberglass lookin wing. I just had this one lying around.

should I do the sticker thing to,, might make it faster right,, lol

for me on the lower side of the front bumper, in the center, it seems too smooth, if you flatten this a bit, it would be much better... Everything else, ace work man  although i don't see purple cars a lot, so maybe you'd want to change the colour to gain some photo-realistic credibity

EighthDecay
01-10-2003, 03:19 PM
well they color is going to stay, maybe a few more shades darker.

you must be one of them Audi lovers of flat boring cars, sorry I like the curvey stuff, thats why I model them. :hmm:
hehehe

I'm gonna try some HDRI stuff in MAX 5 if anyone has tried this with Advanced lighting I would like to get a few pointer from ya,, I'll probably start reading about it, but I haven't the time to get into it quite yet, off to work I go.. Later girls...

Thanks Solesurvivor for the input, lots of people givin me a hard time about that color,, lol.. I'm tired of seeing the same old thing.

Hi... It's a really cool looking concept car you've made... the shape and proportions are quite lovely... But one thing still conserns me.. The textures Are a little too plastic yet.. Wheels are also made of plastic ... But you'll look in to than won't you?

Never the less car looks really promissing. I heared from friends that rhino is very suitable for car modeling becaus of it's good nubrs system.

Well.. Hope to see more of it in the future, Hang in ther...

Yeah Rhino is a good tool for this kinda stuff, I currently use it for freelance car design work. Just starting out with CATIA.... if its really better I might be moving that direction.

Yeah will do,, I was testing a material out and I kinda liked the results, But I have some from the past that are better.

Thanks ExanJU...
