I am interesting is there in XSI material or someway to make matte shadow effect (in 3ds max is matteshadow material)?
If it is not clear:
A plane, a cilinder and light. The shadow form the cilinder over the plane must be visible in the render but the other part of the plane not (which has not shadow) and in the alpha chanel must not be present, only the shadow and the cilinder.

use render/pass/edit>new pass> shadow

that will override all materials on all objects, but in that pass you can go, select all objects you don't want overridden, and create a new partition with no overrides for that.

you can also inspect in the RTree that override to figure out how it's done, which is very simple, and is about a shader aptly named "shadow" and "simple shadow".

you can also simply dump that kind of tree into an individual material anywhere obviously.
