hi . i have a fight scene which i want to put a particle system or if theres a simpler way of doing this . please let me know ..

but what i want to do is this : ( you need to visualize it a little :] )

as in most fight scenes . hand motions travel a lot and i want put a fading trail following the hands . ex: in soul calibur ... weapons leaves a trail when they're in movement and that rail fades in from and fades out when it reaches a stop . the trail can just be ball of light parent on to the hand .

is this possible to do within maya ?

note : this is a link to the picture with the trail effect that i'm aiming for . look at taki ( the red ninja girl ) kick .

remember you can do anything in Maya, and there's usually two or three different ways of doing it!

The way I'd suggest (off the top of my head) is this:

Create your animation as you want. Constrain a pair of locators to the top and bottom of your sword blade (or hand or foot or whatever). Write a script that will sample the position of these locators every frame and create a NURBS curve from the positions, so on the fourth frame create a curve, then every subsequent frame add a CV to it. This will give you two profile curves whose lengths grow over time to follow the movement of the sword.

Then go back to your first frame and create another, straight curve whose endpoints are aligned to the start positions of the profile curves. Use Surfaces>Birail>Birail 1 tool to create a birail surface, et viola you have a surface which is created by the movement of the sword, which you can map with whatever 'swooshy' texture you like!

Hope this helps
