Hi,
I'm having a lot of SSS trouble. I've been through the forums for a couple of hours now with no solution.

How can i get displacement, transparency, refractions working with SSS (this is for a single frame for a 4k print).

I'm trying to create a shader for a warm, incandescent, semi transparent liquid (more transparent than milk and blotchy). It going to be filling up a living room in a photographed matchmoved scene. It will be the only source of light in the room. Lots of caustics and glows for a sort of "alien"effect.

I suppose the best would be to get the SSS in a pass with the displacement and then worry about the rest with a blin, but any solution would be very helpful.

I really appreciate the help. I really looking forward to getting into the photographic aspects of this project but I just need to get past a few technical roadblocks first.

Thanks,
Casey

p.s. The displacement is being used to create the waves and ripples. The same texture might also be used to control the overall transparency and sss depth

If you know how to install custom Mental Ray shaders you could use Francesca's Mix8Layer shader to mix an SSSy shader with a refractive liquid shader?

Also, perhaps you could try glossy/blurry refraction as an alternative to SSS?

hi
try using the sample compositing shaders in the menrtal ray tab .pipe your SSS shader in to one required ...for example mib_reflect and then pipe your mib_reflect into a surface shader and apply the surface shader to your object.it worked for me ..should work for you too
ciao
