Sorry, it's a bit big... Anyway, I've been trying to create a sponge material (don't ask me why I want make sponge man, as I have no idea) but I can't seem to get it right. At the moment, it looks a little like foam rubber or stone, which isn't great. Does anyone have any ideas?

i am no pro, or i am not even at starter level :D but i got a tip which may help.

Try adding some type of moisture of somesort, or darking and making certain peices look heavy. It may look like he is wet and absorbant. Maybe the right lightning and shading will get you the effect you desire.

if using sla use a fusion channel for diffuse inside the fusion use a noise that has round cells then in the second slot use one that has pretty much what you have now, really push your blacks to give illusion of depth to the holes

Woohoo.

I didn't use fusion as there wasn't anything I could put in the other bit but using the diffusion channel didn't occur to me at all, I just copied the bump channel to diffusion and it looks great, Thanks. :)

I also made the colour darker and turned down the luminance.

Now all I've got to do is the body and animate him. :hmm:

Looks cool :)

Put some more yellow into the model Phasmatis, you know like a normal yellow sponge, its a sub conscious thing people see yellow like the color of a sponge and think sponge.

When you use a bump and just want holes use SLA noise as Chi suggested but you can also reduce the white to 50% grey giving you only indented holes,as 50% grey cancels out any bump effect.

Another good idea is to make a copy of your material and add a different bump and change the color channel {hue and sat drag the lightness slide just a bit} as well just a smidegeon. If you use the right color you may beable to get the effect that the sponge is loaded with water at the neck area

Yeah, it does need a little more yellow... What I wantd to do was use a kind of SSS but I just couldn't get it to look right.

I'll post my progress later but I'm working another wip at the moment, I may even post that too.
