Hi im very new to CG , now im using aftereffects 6.5, here (site) all are the people using Z-DEPTH. i dont know what is the z Depth? , and Where to use this?, any examples. or tutorial
pls guide me.

Z depth can be used for a number of things but mostly to fake depth of field in post.

here is one article (http://www.bernardlebel.com/tutorials/AFX_depthPassDof/DOF.htm) which, i think, uses the depth pass and blur but I think you would get a better effect with a proper dof plugin like Frichluft's Lenscare http://www.frischluft.com/lenscare/introduction.php

Other uses would include masking out parts of footage and as quick and dirty enviroment fog/haze.
