View Full Version : Brand New To Cinema 4d.
d_hansbury 01-07-2003, 02:56 PM I learned and have been using 3D Studio Max for 4 years at school and at work but in my apartment I only have a Mac. I've tried tinkering with Lightwave and haven't gotten far (not to mention hate the fact that I have to animate in another program) and I wasn't impressed with Maya 3.0 when I tried it (a little while ago).
I just downloaded the demo for Cinema 4D R8 and after looking through the site, feel that this might just be a program that I don't have to spend months on unlearning what I know to work in it.
If anyone has any suggestions or comments about Cinema 4D that will either help me learn it or help me move on to something else that would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Dennis

Go to www.maxoncomputer.com -> support -> tutorials
You have a lot of quick tutorials to get you started there.
It was the way i learned it, coming from 3dsmax.
After 2 weeks i was starting to feel comfortable with it... after 2 months i couldn't go back to 3dsmax!!

I saw a teacher here at the college I work at use Cinema 4D once and was rendering in a seperate window And modeling at the same time. I was pretty impressed but have never had the chance to use it myself.
My aim for 3D now isn't to compete with foreign 3D modeling gods or people that devote their life to photorealism, but just to enhance the work I've already been doing. I enjoy doing 3D and just want to add that element to my work again.
My current site gives some examples of my newest work and if I can either create some of those characters in 3D or environments for them, that would achieve my goal.
Check them out if you can.

Thanks again and I look forward to posting any work I do!

Welcome to C4D!
Your site is nice. I especially liked the last illustration, the one that shows the black and white and then the colored version. You just need to come to my town and talk to Darkhorse Comics now.

I remember back in the late 80's I wanted to work for Dark Horse so bad. I picked up Predator: Big Game #1 and fell in love with the company because they did Predator comics. Keep in mind I was about 8 and loved anything Predator related!
I wanted to work for them because they would have really bad artists do titles I liked. I had all these pages of Predator stories drawn up, then realized that being 13 years old I couldn't move out there and do comics!
Anyway, thanks for the compliment :)
