View Full Version : How to best connect (weld) high-poly-area with low-poly-area?

Ok... say you have modeled a head-object crowded with LOTS of tiny polygons...
Then you need to connect it (manually weld it) to say the neck of a body-ojbect.
The neck has very few polygons compared to the area of the head where they need to be connected.
This creates a problem since how do you connect loads of polygons to only a few while preferably maintaining quads?
(To make it more difficult let's say it's on an area which must be slightly curved.)

Here for example is one way of connecting a 4-poly-row with a 2-poly-row.

More solutions and all other input on this is highly apriciated.

Also if there are any tutorials out there on this subject I would be really grateful.

why not subdivide the low-poly part once or twice;
if you smooth/render later on with two combined parts having
very disparate levels of detail you will probably run into problems

That's what I'm talking about, thank you!

Anyone else have interesting threads or pictures?
