View Full Version : exporting Max 5 to Max 4 problem
J_Bravo 01-07-2003, 02:46 PM I'm having a problem when exporting a Max 5 scene into Max 4.
When exporting, Max renames all the maps into a 8.3 file format and when the scene is opened in Max 4, it is unable to find any maps.
Does anyone know a way to successfully export to Max4?
Thanks

Thanks
it seems to hang Max 5 unfortunately, the export doesnt seem to want to finish.
it creates a .ms file tho, how is Max 4 supposed to open that?
'MaxScript > open script' ?
or 'run script'

Going to bump this thread in the process of liberating this damn thing. I have been able to successfully convert a 300+ poly object from max 5 to R4. Having problems with my finalRender files. Will keep updated and hopefully soon have a tut on this pupper.

Okay for all those that want to convert your max 5 scenes to to max 4 and below here is the jest. DL the script that is in this thread. Open up your 3d5 and what ever 3d max version you want to convert to.
Go to the Maxscript menu and run this script. The UI will not change from running this script you have to manually add a button yourself. Once the script is compiled go to the Customize pull down and select Customize User Interface . From here go to the tab Toolbars and select the pull down menu under category.
From the category pull down select Bobo_bo's Tools . Yeah I know its funny props to the guy that named it. This will bring you to another menu with the word BackFromFive listed. Drag this over to the main tool bar in your UI and you have just made this a button.
Now here is the catch. Since this script is still WIP it doesn't like any UVW textures what so ever. It will only convert lights and and collapsed meshes. If you want to convert to anything lower than 3d5 your going to want to make sure your mesh has a default texture and it has to be an editable mesh.
Pretty sweet script. Really can find a use for it but I was bored and I needed something to do late at night.
