This is the 1st of many works I will be putting together over the next few months in an attempt to find myself an internship/job. I am a twenty year old college student.

Woooa - really nice - great texturing.

its probably a little too clean though - could have done with some dust and scratches on the desk, just to dirty it up a bit.

Good work!

Nice, original theme. And the colors and atmosphere are good looking I think.

You're a sick man Nemesis. :buttrock:

Waters, it looks good ... Dirty up the textures and play with the lighting a bit though. What software are you using btw?

Thankyou.. :)

I'll take your advice and dirty the textures up some before calling this one finished. I'm using maya 4.5.

Great work...!!!

only thing I can crit is that the text on the palm looks like it's a printed paper underneath the screan... it doesn't look - hmm - digital :) (in my opinion)

Other than that - AWSOME!!!

Yes, I like it but same crits as soundwav. Make palm screen to look like LCD screen, letters should be little blured and try to make this LCD screeen illuminated (blue)

Ok, so I tried to include all of your suggestions. Please let me know what you think. Am I done with this piece do you think?

I really like your composition. The open door behind the desk adds depth and implies that whoever this person is, is always on the go! This is why they need a bible on a Palm. Great job!

REALLY good work!!!!! Love the mood and lighting... great improvements on the lcd! and I'm kind'a biased to the theme... love it!

one q... would you like to and be willing to render the digital Bible alone (over white) and have it be the cover of a manual for a workshop I'm teaching at the end of this month? It's a one day workshop on technology and Christian ministry... of course you would get all the credit!
...if not, I understand... great work anyways!

let me know!

Sorry about that guys, :shame: , but the problem is now fixed. Thanks for the comments and crits, cgtalk is really such a great thing.

-The rev.- I have no problem with giving you that image you requested, actually I'm sort of honored.

Now on to my next project, a vase of lilies and roses. :airguitar

Looks absolutely awsome, man. You really got that lighting looking good. Though apparently contrary to popular opinion, I love the concept. Creative, well thought out, and good composition.

Hope your next project works out this well.

Oh yeah, and um...

Hey waters...nice pic...the only thing I see wrong with it is that the door should be opening the other way according to your doorhinge placement...other than that...I would dirty up the textures a little...great work though....keep it up:thumbsup: ....and nemesis I agree with waters...keep your beliefs to yourself...:shame:

Hey, thanks for the comment. I fixed the hinge haha, thanks for picking up on that one.

I added scratches to the table, and a bit of dirt to a few of the surfaces, but I think I like the palm reader looking clean like it is.

LOOKING GREAT, man!

I still think that the LCD screen doesn't have a real LCD look to it, but that is small potatos! Overall look = AWSOME!

is the candle translucented? (subsurface scattered)

Waters
01-08-2003, 10:22 PM
loving the comments, thanks everyone.

soundwav-
I really dont think I understand what you mean about the lcd look, I thought i had gotten it ( i own one of these pdas and the screen looks pretty much just like that ), if you have a tip for creating a typical lcd look, I would appreciate the advice. And...

yes that is translucency ( sub-surface scattering ) occurring in the candle. I used the free mental ray plugin now available for maya 4.5 to achieve that effect, it is my first time playing around with this effect, and I wanted to do this scene after getting the plugin to try it out ( I love the look ).

I especially like the lcd now that it's "fixed"...

let me know how to get that 'image'... I'll be sure to send you a copy of the handbook for the course.

again, thanks!

I've got a Clie, and I've noticed that it has several micro-thin scratches on the LCD when you look directly at its specular rolloff. You seem to have this situation here, so I would scratch it up just a bit in the brightest areas of the screen. Other than that, I really like your design. And I think that it's great that you are willing to stand up for God.
:bounce:

BTW, something to think about: In 1989, Pres. George Bush Sr. was quoted saying that it was his belief that aetheists could not be considered U.S. citizens because we are one nation under God.
Pretty rough for Americans, but he makes sense. (This probally doesn't mean a thing to the several non-U.S. members here, though.)

jscheel- thanks for the crit. sounds like good advice, dont think I'll be putting anymore time into this project, but I think your right about the specularity scratches.

soundwav- thanks, glad you like it.

 calling it done.

theres an aweful lot of gloss still in there, is it too much specularity?¿? anyway, great idea... just needs some more texturing :surprised
