I know that this has been discussed before, but I can't find a clear answer,
How can I import a vector format (Illustrator, freehand, eps, pdf anything), to fusion, preserving of course the vector data?, maybe to a fusion shape?
I've tried the *.dfsh format but I canŽt get it to work.
Any Ideas?

Fusion doesn't support any real way to import postscript files natively. Something like Ghostscript or another third party plugin like speed six's will allow you to import them.

Thanks for the answer,
It's the best answer I've got since working with fusion.
There's no way to import to Fusion Shape? I mean some converter or something?, becasue I've tried Speedsix with a friend of mine and it's kind of buggy.
Eyeon tech support told me about exporting from Maya, but never gave me specific instructions on doing so.
Anyway, thanks

I guess it depends on what you are trying to do with the shape once it's imported. Are you going to need to rasterize it frame by frame in terms of an animation, or ar you trying to attach it to a mask or path or something?

I'm not familiar with maya, so I don't know what is involved with importing a eps file there. As far as 3dsmax goes, it still needs to be exported, and again, not a lot of cross application communcation between fusion and max.

If you know your way around scripting, you may be able to write a max or mel script to output the verticies from the 3d app to a DFSH file. That is just an ascii file with the realitve or absolute coordinates of each vertex and the handle tangents. The hard part will be figuring out the conversion between what fusion expects and how max/maya store their shape data.

Hi Jay,
Thanks for your time, normally we use AfterFX with shapes imported directly from Illustrator, and sometimes we make severe zoom in to a part of the graphic, that's why we need it in vector format. Many times are logos or special type, and in Fusion we need to do all that again with a Mask Shape, or do the animation somewhere else and compositing in Fusion.
If I need to learn scripting to do the conversion, will worth it. Because we lose lot's of time redoing everything in Fusion, and of course it hasn't the best tools for that.
Again, thanks for your time and help.

the choice for import EPS or AI format in a animation aplication is very important for every day work on Broadcast graphic.

Convert the vector image into a TrueType Font. Then place the file in your windows Font directory and load the image using the Text+ node.

Depending on your needs and budget there are several ways to convert the file:

FontForge (http://fontforge.sourceforge.net/) < Open source font creator project with only bairbones EPS support.
Font Creator Pro (http://www.high-logic.com/fcp.html) < $90 font creator. EPS to ttf support.
Corel Draw < Basic EPS/AI support with the ability to export simple *.ttf | Should cost about $50-$100

Wow,
 I was wondering if that could be done, but never done it before.
IŽll give it a try.

Thanks for the links!:buttrock:
