View Full Version : Render node Pentium system
Throbstone 05-15-2006, 12:58 AM Looks like I need to dumb down our nodes, can't use a mix of AMDs and pentiums due to rendering conficts (in LIghtwave) and as our existing nodes are all pentiums I have to stick with that, at least while we are still using lightwave (we may go to XSI).
Any suggestions for a good Mobo/processor/ram etc combo?
Thanks for your time.

does it matter if they are just pentiums or can they be dual core?
The shuttle pc is cost effective, and the mac mini rules in terms of power/form factor, and uses the core duo chip.

you can probably built a fullsize system for cheaper than both, but it depends on whether space and heat and noise are issues.

I just newegg'd a system for under $350 shipped...

... as you'd expect the components are pretty bottom-end and an investment in a better mobo, ram, and cooling could net a great overclock.
cheers!

I guess the system need to be reliable, I don't want dodgy parts.
I'm really looking for the best 'bang for my buck', if dual processor is the way to go, then so be it.
