HI... i would like to make a carbon fiber shader and have it reflect how real carbon fiber does... i have found this effect to be hard for me to do so i come here seeking some help :) ... The specularity on carbon fiber is alot different than most surfaces. I need this for a model that i am currently working on.. If you have any tips.. any at all please send them this way. THanks alot in advance.

Im thinking maybe a checker map mask for spec. and maybe anistrophic shader.... but im at work and cant try this at the moment hehe. I have atache an image so you can better see what i need. THanks.

what program are you going to be using?

you're probably going ot either have to remap a really wide specular through a gradient ramp, then mix in a cloth texture in there, or use as you say anisotropic effects to get yourself multiple specular highlights with different sizes and intensities.

might be able to be a little more specific if i knew what package your'e using

ok then i think your best bet (or at least the way i'd attempt it, but you don't have to go with this obviously) would be to use a layers node to blend a number of different anisotropic, blinn or phong shaders with different specular settings, probably three should do the trickone small and hard maybe give this one the lens highlight glow effect too if you need it to be there, the next one should be medium size and quite a bit lower down, this is there to blend the first specular highlight in a bit, this should probably be a cool colour, then the third i think should be anisotropic, with a weave pattern in there, and it should be slightly warm coloured, very wide and fairly low intensity, maybe add a weave bump map to this material too... you'll be able to see when it's working. then you probably want to layer on top a laquer layer with no bump and just reflection/environment.... hopefully this should get towards what you're after.

good luck, and come back to show what you achieve :)
