View Full Version : GeForce 4: getting artifacts in viewport
GRMac13 01-06-2003, 06:42 PM I just installed my new GeForce 4 Ti4600 video card. Now, for some reason, when I open max I get a weird artifact in the viewport. It seems like in the lower right corner of the VP there is an area where i get a sort of "ghosting" effect. It's a small section of the screen and when I navigate around the scene it seems to not update with the rest of the viewport. It's really odd, and I didn't have this issue with my old GeForce 3. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a fix for it?

I just updated my driver. I had version 6.13.10.2832, and updated it to version 6.13.10.4072. Problem solved.
visualboo, I keep hearing about softquad for GeForce4, is it any good. What are the real benefits? How do I do this?

There is an update on the nvidia web for those using Geforce cards. May want to also check and see if you are not under the heidi drivers. Play around with the different settings under your configure drivers.

Yes it's finally here. You can force the professional Quadro4 family on your normal GeForce4 without soldering on the PCB to force the Device_ID, all that with a little software patch and a little help from some anonymous friends that is.
The ingredients: you'll need this patch-script and the latest version of RivaTuner, any of the Detonator drivers 27.xx – 41.03 and a Graphics adapter GeForce4 Ti4x00 based on NV25 GPU. What you need to do is this:
Unpack SoftQuadro4 Script Pack in the same folder, where RivaTuner is
Unpack Detonator driver distributive package in separate folder.
Make preparations to manually install unpacked driver. This step is necessary only when you are using Detonator 30.82 or higher under Windows 2000/XP. Starting from this version, nVidia compresses every file from the driver package, what makes impossible manual driver installation by using *.inf data. To prepare driver to the installation procedure which uses info file, copy UnpackDriver.bat file from SoftQuadro4 Script Pack in the driver folder and start it, or just execute the following commands, when you are in the driver folder:
expand -r *.??_
ren *.cf *.cfg
ren *.cp *.cpl
ren *.dl *.dll
ren *.ex *.exe
ren *.hl *.hlp
ren *.sy *.sys
ren *.tv *.tvp
Start NVStrap antiprotection script from RivaTuner package (NVStrap antiprotection w9x.rts file for Windows 9x/ME or NVStrap antiprotection w2k.rts for Windows 2000/XP). You can do this by clicking needed file icon in Windows Explorer (scripts located in PatchScriptsNVIDIANVStrap subfolder of RivaTuner’s folder) or by pressing Open patch script button under PowerUser tab of RivaTuner.
After you’ve started the script, press the Continue button and browse for location of the folder, where unpacked driver is. Application will automatically open and patch the needed file.
Start SoftQuadro4 script intended for your OS (it is located in PatchScriptsNVIDIASoftQuadro4 subfolder of RivaTuner's folder) and repeat previous step.
Install NVStrap driver from RivaTuner package and activate its PCI DeviceID reprogramming function. To do this under Windows 9x you will need to include NVStrap.com DOS driver file (it is located in ToolsNVStrap subfolder of RivaTuner’s folder) in the autoexec.bat file like this:
C:RivaTunerToolsNVStrapNVStrap.com G+
If you are using Windows 2000/XP you can install and configure NVStrap through the driver configuration panel of RivaTuner.
Please note that the FAQ file included in the RivaTuner documentation contains the most frequently asked questions about NVStrap, so if you cannot install the driver because of something, please make sure you’ve carefully read supplied documentation and FAQ. After reboot Windows will find nVidia Quadro-based display adapter and ask you to install its driver.
It is very important that starting from Detonator 30.82 any driver has to be installed manually by using the *.inf file. Starting Setup.exe installer will result in unpacking and installing original driver.
The last thing you have to do after all of these steps – is to check if the driver and the scripts are installed correctly. If all was done right, in both the display control panel and under the OpenGL renderer name (which can be checked by various special programs, like GLInfo) your GeForce4 will be identified as Quadro4. And, under Windows 2000/XP OS, there will be additional property pages in RivaTuner and in Detonator control panel. This installation/documentation is courtesy of nvworld.ru.
Your gonna need two files from this page. Rive tuner 2 and Softquadro4 (http://www.guru3d.com/files/vid_tweak/)
Hope that works for you. If you have any questions just post. Someone will help you out.

I use OpenGL. DirectX seems too sluggish for me, but maybe it's just because I haven't optimized it.
