View Full Version : Any opinions on FREE autorigging programs?

I'm curious about the FREE autoriggers available for Maya character animators, such as ...
"The Joint Factory", which is being used on a feature in Norway, available at http://www.animagicnet.no/maya/jointfactory
Or "Autorig v1.7.2" by Mark Behm and other quite talented animators, available at http://www.markbehm.com/tools.html
Anyone have any experience with these free programs? Or is it all too good to be true?

I've used Mark Behm's autorig (in Maya) and I really like it. It's easy to set up and very flexible - and it has a number of nice features like stretchy legs/arms/spine, functional IK switches, and a very easy to use foot setup.
There is one some very minor bug in it (when you turn off the independent head feature, the head is turned 90 degrees), but that is easily fixed and really no big deal if you consider what an incredible time saver this is. Setting up and troubleshooting a rig like this by hand could easily take you upwards of a week (months if you're a beginner), and the autorig script allows you to do it in under 30 minutes.
Kudos to Mark Behm for giving this away for free!:applause:

Thanks for sharing your experience Marion, I'll give Mark Behm's rig a try.
The Joint Factory looks great too, but I am (unnecessarily?) concerned because the setup includes Morpheus and Kazzaa imbedded in it. I'm probably paranoid about that stuff, if nothing else I suspect it might slow down my computer. Am I wrong about this? :hmm:
