One of the best E3 trailers IMO. Really liked the whole thing, cant wait to see how the game plays.

I really thought (for a moment) that the assassin was going to shoot the noose ropes with arrows from the bell-tower, and I have to admit thinking 'oh, how original'. I'm pleased to say how wrong I was! I wasn't expecting a full-on assault! And the camera motion was spot on - it really added to the sense of urgency.

Great animation, beautiful character / scenery design, exciting.... definitely ticks all the boxes! Great work, Shingo - can't wait for the game.

Thanks for the kind words all.

We did the trailer in-house at Ubisoft. We were pleased with it (given the minute deadline) until the we saw the awesome stuff put out by Digic and Blur, so your compliments mean a lot. images/icons/icon7.gif

As for the in game, it's stunning. In fact, we had to work really hard to do the game justice, so I can assure you, you wont be dissapointed.

That looks real good shingo, the most memorable part was when he jumped at that guard and the knife sticks out of his wrist, that was great, love the pose at the peak of the jump.

I don't really like that "interlaced screen" effect though, seemed out of place in this Middle Age setting, maybe I'm just used to seeing it in sci-fi genre, specially the old starcraft cinematics.

Not sure if this is why they put it in, but I read an article that one of the game's sequels will take place in the future. While playing the game there will be other things that allude to this as well, so that may be a reason for it.

Shingo, great job! Ranks up there with the best of the trailers imo.

For those wondering how it will actually play out, it's almost exactly like in the trailer. You must make your way to your targets by going through the crowds (no more ugly collision among characters, the assassin can actually place his hand on people to push them aside). You must kill your target, then run away. One of the key gameplay mechanic is that anything that sticks out 2" can be climbed/held onto by the assassin. You can eve ride an horse (according to some in-game screenshots (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/772/772025/imgs_1.html)).

As for the weird TV-glitch effect, it supposedly has to do with how the story unfolds over many years, but it's not clear exactly what they mean. I hope they won't do a modern version tho, maybe a few hundred years later but not set in the 21st century (maybe set in asia, that would be cool).

If they're gonna set it in 21st century, don't forget the barcode tattoo on the back of the neck and shave him, give him a suit, a garotte and dual colt.:D

I don't think it can be set in Asia either since it's a brotherhood founded in Jerusalem during the Crusade so I'm guessing it's a semi/religious group, we don't even know why they were founded in the first place. What could they possible want to achieve in Asia? besides, the Asian Ninjas are just gonna kick their butts.:D

That's what I have been waiting for, a true follow up to Tenchu (stealth ninja game that rocked and became progressively worst with each sequel). The first one was awsome, just add a ninja skin to Assassin's Creed and change the backdrop and you're pretty close to having a great ninja game. Ninjas are cool, but there have been too few stealth ninja games. With online play it could be cool. Hopefully Assassin will have some form of online play as well:)

I never played Splinter Cell but from the online gameplay clips of MGS Subsistence, it looks like it just becomes online 3rd person shooter so I don't know how a stealth game can be implemented online, specially when it's 3rd person, our camera would show the enemy before they can get close enough to stab us.

it is for both systems.

Show me any official statement saying it will be released on anything else than PS3. While it's very likely that it will be released for both systems (it's common Ubisoft practice), Ubisoft has only confirmed it for PS3 thus far.

I remember reading somewhere that it was shown behind close doors running on the 360… I will see if I can find the link. It had an image. That, plus the reason you said, is why I claimed it for both systems. It is all but confirmed…

If you mean this article (http://www.oxm.co.uk/articles/news/3rd_person/killer_assassins_creed_hands-on), then they only meant they saw it behind close doors (but it was not running on 360). They say themselves that so far Ubisoft only said it's coming out on PS3 when asked if it would be released as well on 360. But yeah, it's likely.

As for the game, there is one thing I'm worried about. Even if I hate the idea of changing costumes in-game like in Hitman, it feels a bit strange that the same guy would come and go among the crowds, always dressed the same, and somehow not be noticed by all the guards. If they at least let you choose a suit before going out, that would be nice.

The game was running at GDC on 360 and/or PC, and being a Ubisoft game, they will try to push it onto every platform possible. It wasn't until recently that Sony (most likely) threw some money at them for timed exclusivity, which is why it has only been officially announced for the PS3 right now. No where in the press releases does it say "exclusively" for the PS3. And back at X05 it was announced by Peter Moore that Ubisofts Assassin franchise would be hitting the 360. This is just another case of GTA

As for E3, it was definitely not running on a PS3. It was rumored to have been running on a 360, but if for whatever reason you can't buy that, then most likely it was running on PC. IGN ran an article stating that it was running on a 360, but it was later corrected by Ubisoft, and their explanation was a "PC emulating the PS3."

Can you tell us a bit about how this was made.... was it using the actual game engine/models?

World of Warcraft.. 3rd person.. rogues in stealth. Not a problem.

Hey Shingo!

Echoing everyone else I also thought the trailer was fantastic. I really dig stealth type games set in the medieval age (ie: Thief) so I'll definitely keep my eye on this one.

As for the animation, did you guys use any mocap for the cinematic? Or was it all keyed? How about in game?

Great work,

Yep, I saw them... and you can definately see that those look like in-game gfx.... but in the trailer, is any of it made using the game engine (where you can see the tesselation of the mesh for example) or is it all pre-rendered footage.
I know all the DOF and mo-blur is obviously not ingame graphics, but towards the end, some of the shots do look like they could have been taken from the game itself....

besides all this side discussion, it still looks bl00dy amazing. :)

I was under the impression that the stealth in this game involves hiding in the shadow, behind object etc etc like MGS/Splinter Cell not a special ability like in an RPG such as WoW. Besides, what if everyone in the game is in stealth mode? all you see in an empty environment, I'd imagine that would get a little boring and tedious after a while.

eh... in online gaming people rarely try to hide in the shadows.. most just use the bunny hop/hit fire button routine. This will turn into more of a hack n slash, or they'll add numerous environmental features to aid in stealth, however, again, it'll turn into a button mash fest.

You pretty much said what I was trying to say so I don't know why you quoted me and gave me that WoW example.

I said "from the online gameplay clips of MGS Subsistence, it looks like it just becomes online 3rd person shooter so I don't know how a stealth game can be implemented online".

In other word, I was telling Phill Osirus that the kind of Stealth game like MGS/Splinter Cell or this game probably can't be implemented well as a multiplayer online game.
