fxgogo 01-06-2003, 04:07 PM Has anyone successfully installed Directx 9 on their system and still used R8 well? Is there a speed increase?

Cinema doesn't use DirectX, does it? It just uses OpenGL.

It uses what you desire.
When i use OpenGL it crashes, so i use software (DX).

I've used opengl for a while but it never give me any problems..........but I didn't get any performance improvements, I got only a blurred texture view while editing.
On Mac DirectX doesn't exists................on every other platform only opengl exists.

It used to crash on me all the time. Do you use an nVidia card? You must get the latest drivers. This was addressed on Bhodinut.com:

Hopefully that will fix your problem. For me OGL is MUCH faster!

OK...just installed DX9 and everything pretty much looks the same. I would run a Cinebench (sp?) if I had kept my results from DX8 so no use there.
<< BUT BEWARE: >>
After install this little box shows up saying "Close your programs, your computer will now be restarted". Wait a minute! And then about 3 seconds later the whole computer restarts. OUCH! Good thing I didn't have anything REAL important I was in the middle of. Oh well, progress from Microsoft means grab your ankles and take it like a man (or woman;) d@mn it!

Well I am going to give it a try. I have a amd 1.2 mhz, with 1 gigi ram and a g-force4 TI 4200 128mb. I agree about C4D using Open-GL, but Microsoft and Directx have a funny way of messing things up.
Well here goes. Wish me good luck.

Right installed the latest N-vidia drivers (41.09 I think) and Directx 9 and everything seems perfect. Long term use will show more, but I am happy. So go ahead if you are questioning to make the installation.

OpenGL does very little for XL7, but it makes a *BIG* difference in R8.

I recently installed DX 9 and none of my games or any presentation which ran in fullscreen mode would work. Installing new drivers for my NVidia GeForce 440 MX worked, but now the text and fonts don't appear as sharp as before. It's a very subtle difference and when other people look at my system they say it looks fine, but I can tell the difference.
