Last week I was finishing up a file in AfterEffects when the machine began to hang. I quit out of AfterEffect 6.5 and restarted the Machine (Macintosh Quad processor with 4G of ram). I restarted AfterEffects and opened the file I was working on. It would open the project only so far and said it couldn't read PNGs error code (-43). It also had a problem reading Illustrator files (cannot open a file that is already open). So I re-installed the program which seemed to fix the glitch temporarily - until I restarted the machine on Monday. The same exact thing happened.
I thought that maybe the file was corrupt - I created a new file and tried to import PNGs and Illustrator files into it - same error. As a last ditch effort I downloaded the AE7 trial and I copied the file in question onto a PC running AE 6.5. The file worked on the PC without any problems (in 6.5). It also worked fine in AE 7 on the Mac.
This entire debacle cost me about 8 hours of production time.
Just curious - has anyone had any similar issues? For all of you conspiracy theory buffs - is it possible that Adobe put a kill switch in AE 6.5 on the last update?
