mmmm its ok but you schould really work over the material again the one ring should have a cool raytraced gold[i'd use the dark gold from the library] and the text would look much better when it glows^,^

The chain isn't made of gold, btw. The writings in Elvish should not be visible. That is why it took Gandalf 17 years to figure out that it was the One Ring.

Thanks for the feedback, the chain was'nt actually gold before, but the environment map made it look a little like gold so i changed the it. I thought the picture was a lot cooler whith the inscription visible, without it it would look just like an ordinary ring. I put a more "gold looking" texture on the ring, but i think it's too dark....

the writing, of course, should stay because i think you wanted to capture the ring at this one moment it shows its identity - all those inscriptions

That looks much better. May I suggest to make inscription like it just came out of fire. Kind when you look at it, you can see the the flame. It's getting really good.

The model itself looks really good. I think the problem with the texture of the ring is, that it reflects the wooden plate and therefore it looks like it's made of wood too. You should try to get some other enviroment reflected in it. Some more objects would be nice too. Think of the kitchen table when Gandalf talks with Frodo about the ring (apples, mugs and so on)

The inscription could be scanned right out of the book.

Yes, the material actually does look like wood.. I can't quite seem to get the material right.. maybe I should start all over with it...

The specular is white
gold and other metals have a specular which
is the same color of the material

Before reworking all the materials, redefine the lighting! If this is gonna be a fire shining there, it must be alot brighter and more glowy. Then, add some other light from the backside. This is just all to dark and contrast-less!

But good modelling, even though the ring is broader I think...

It's cold be more bright/shiny and if u have brazil or another radiosity renderer. Mine is rendered only with defaul max scanline renderer.

Try setting the color to black, then set the specular color to an slightly orange yellow, try different settings on the specular roll off and eccentricity and reflection for best result with the gold material!

Well, i renderd out and Alpha layer with the text, and than i applied it on the image, and used Photoshops glow!

although its pretty good, its just a f*cking ring. how hard is it to model a ring? not the most original post i've ever seen.

It is very simply... create round spline and then tweak shape to what you want and then move pivot point to inner side of spline and the use Lathe tool (was it lathe?) to rotate spline which makes the ring.

I'm not tolkien specialist so I don't know, but if you can find low-res version of the writings you can compare them (comaper is that word :) )

It's is easy but it takes time to do it. Also you can make it on vector prog. if you got that low-res version of the writings.

sprite- a greyscale jpg cant possibly take 25 megs? och behöver man inte egenteligen typ bara en 450x4500 typ ser nog inegn skildnad liksom? addar dig på icq sen, så kan vi snacka ;D
