View Full Version : Making a hole via transparent texture?
Aaron Moore 01-06-2003, 12:04 PM Ok, I want to cut a hole in my geometry but because I would like to keep it as a lathed object, I want to cut my hole with a texture map.
Now it works until I add specularity, reflection etc because even though the opacity around the hole is at 100 (pure black -> white) The reflection + glossy ness give it a glare...
Is there an easy way to do this or what? HELP!

You'll have to include the hole in every map for the spec and relcet channels, and if you are controlling either of those params with a spinner instead of a map you'll need to put the Opac map into that channel as a mask.

Ya I was trying that... finally got it to work. The problem was that the specular level was 191 and i didn't know what pixel value that refered to. After some testing i realized that by adjusting the level setting on the output it could appropriately work with the spinner values...
It still seems like a pain though... wish there was an easier way to do this.
BTW this was for that doulbe spoked wheel I was modeling... the final shots are up :
