Hi Enrique,

It's great to see your Anatomy Thread go up! :)

Have you ever tried ballpoint pen for master studies? I find you can get an incredible range of values and line variation with really any ballpoint pen. Just a recommendation, I think you could do some really nice stuff. :)

One thing with the master studies I might suggest is to really emphasize the monumentality of the figures. An artist like Michelangelo was a master at getting every curve and line to work with every other to really build a monumental sense of form. There is so much rhythm and life in his forms, and it's always hard (for me, at least) to do them justice. But I keep trying. :)

Looking forward to seeing many more of your works here ~ also, feel free to post your OFDW pieces here as well as WIP. Anything you feel like putting here is fine by me. :)

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Thank you very much Becca, will try to put major emphasize to the forms, all were sketches, but maybe will take futher one, thanks again for the comments.

Here is another master piece's study is another michael angello's piece, I don't know how is called in english, in spanish is La piedad, from the negative space.

Lately, I have an obsession for draw legs and feet, since somebody told me that that body part is going a bit freak in my draws and paints, here are some, taken from photos and from the life.

Excellent foot studies <><>

Tips: Draw lots of shoes <> they are simplfied structures of the foot and some are engineering marvels <> understand the shape of a footprint, it is key to understanding the weight distribution <> use a mirror on the floor to see your feet at different angles <> also toes are always longer than we think.

Thanks Becca, always is good to hear that your work likes to someone, specially whn came from people like u :)

My avatar complete was a quick paint from Murillo, that I did in a class for my students, here it is, it took about 1 hour, using direct color, something that Im not good in, it doesnt like me much, but the face.

Hi Enrique,

I think it would be lovely to see some pencil sketches, or digital pencil sketches, of realistic figures. :) I always think that doing realistic studies is the best way to make better comic / stylized studies. Good to see more of your work! :)

Heya Becca, well, my eternal love is the 2d, but the most time for work i do 3d, I did that character just for fun, generally the "comercial" 3d work that i do are stands for expositions, previsualizations for promotional events (so if my company wants to take a bus, put above of it a cafetery, i must to do a 3d graphic of that), animations for logos, and I have had 2 works for 2 children's books, some time I worked at NewTek of Mexico as modeling teacher; and my 2d work is generally for children's magazines and books, in my based work I use it for illustrate uniforms and for storyboards for promotional dynamics.

I have no reference for the last paint, just the draw above, I still deciding the illumination.

Thanks for look, and for read this long answer :)

Hi Enrique...:) .....Burne Hogarth has a great book...ONE OF HIS BEST...can't tell you how much it has helped me with lighting...you can get it used cheap on the internet...google.

It is called...DYNAMIC LIGHT AND SHADE by Burne Hogarth....has everything you will ever
need to know about light and shade, and then some...deffenitly worth buying...has a great example of the lighting problem your trying to creat in it...just thought I would mention it.
Think it would really be a big help to you....GREAT BOOK....

I'm completely lovin' the sketches! The mouth and anatomy studies are especially wonderful.

AND your 3D rocks! gah, not fair! :D You can't be the master of both, it's just not allowed :P

*hugs* wonderful stuff, the OFDW one is looking very nice too, the nose in particular looks great. Looking forward to more updates!

Don't worry hiiri, I will let you keep the 2d master title :P, for long time, thanks for the visit and comments, *really big hughs for u.:)*

Hey Cyanid thanks for looking, I work in green for two main reasons, one is that is part of a method that I use in oils, called seven layered paint, that involves a very similar technique usin greens an blues, but here in PS, I dont consider that the blue hues are necesary, and the second reason is that I like very much the green:D, the muscles in red are based in 2 anatomic illustrations of a book that I bought some time ago, but I have some draws that I made in a workshop that I pay for enter at the univ, 3 years ago, that I use too often, in that workshop we when to a hospital and we drawn from real life models (for not saying corpses), that was scary but interesting experience at the same time, in real life the muscles mases dont look like the anatomic draws, they look mooooore confuse, those draws are very big, I draw in paper sheets of 86cm * 56cm, soon as I get a digital camera or a scanner big enough for that I will post them.

DigitalSol

Here is a detailed explanation of the method in traditional
All
There is a method called the seven layer method for painting in oils, is the method that I use in traditional oils, I learned it at the univ, as I know, it was created in the 16th centyury and great painters as Rubens, Van Duke or Snyders used it, it is very confortable for me, since as i said Im not good working in color and form at same time, when i learn to use the PS for paint, I tried to translate that technique to the digital media these are the steps.

I am really interested in your painting method, and would love to see you put together a Tutorial with more detailed explanations of each step. You don't have to do this and there is certainly no hurry, but I for one would certainly be interested in seeing an indepent Tutorial about your methods for working. :)

Hi Enrique,

Good as always to see your work. :)

If I may say so, I think the anatomy seems a bit too exxaggerated on this model, particularly in the area of the back. It's curvature means that she would not be able to stand :D but I know you're going after a stylized look here. :) I would just suggest making her back a bit straighter, thus giving her more of a waist.

Hope this helps!

Hey Trunks, thanks for your comments, yeah, that brown hair is good for me too (it looks a bit a like Halle Berry, for me:D), but it was a "sketch" hair in polygons, I wanted some real look hair, so I tried that polylined hair, perhaps, I shoul go back to the original design, thanks for the suggestion, I will try to render one of the sketches, you mean the sketches in basic shapes or the others?, thanks for looking.

Haha you are on the kung-fu trip right? :) Nice studies. I like this jumping poses :)

The first sketches girl/boy (don't know ^^) upper arm looks too short to me, also she/he has got some big hands.

The "other sketches" heads are to small ;) I mean this body builder ;) Not the basic lined guys.

Just some "mistakes" I noticed.

I wanted you to rneder the basic shaped ones ;) The other are, well half rendered ^^ Ok 1/8 :)

Icaro, thank you so much, I only use LightWave for 3d stuff, since I work in NewTek Mexico, where I learned to use it, in my opinion is a very intuitive modeling program for people with 2d experience, once I tried to lear Maya, but it's logic is very complex for me, Lw is a great tool IMHO.

Ellie & Cyanid, Thanks both for your comment, I really apreciate them, I think is a little of patiente, which is running out to fast, and I spended too many canvas for cloth studies, in univ, the teacher, once the teacher set a cloth in a chair, then turn off the lights in the classroom, then he light up a candle and each hour he changes the light position, that is a fabulous way to understand the clothes, after that, I used to paint 5 canvases each week in oils as a practice, lately (since 3 years ago) I dont do this excercise, even I know I should, because I paint all in the computer, but is an excersice that I recomend greatly, thanks for your coments again and for looking.

This is a really fantastic body of work! I love the stylized pieces the most. They remind me of animation. Welcome back enrique! I know how those breaks can be... and a manga workshop no less! That would be quite cool to partake in, I've not done anything truly manga styled for a while. I shall certainly try to pop in once you're up and running!

I just went through your whole threat and I MUST say it was a great treat. I really like your sketches! I am currently in the process of turning back to the bases looking at humany anatomy more seriously. I was simply to bored to do this when in Highschool but now all the formulas and simple rules seem so fascinating!!
I will be checking in often... keep the Art comming.

Hi Sol,

You've got some great stuff here, we wants to see more!

Two small crits on the last piece:
- if you pull the hair up then it protrudes a bit just above the hairline because of the accumulated thickness;
- I may be wrong about this but the deltoid seems to be pushed forward too far and somewhat sprawled.

Other than that it looks great, and I love his right fist :D

[Looking forward to the manga workshop :deal:]

Cheers,
Michal

HEY.....Enrique....

Great to see you back on line....missed seeing your work in the workshop.
Really like the upangle you got in that boxer...looking up at him really
adds a lot to the dynamic and mood of the piece...also like the lighting you chose to go with it...matches the upangle of the pose....NICE DRAMA:thumbsup:
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHERE GO GO WITH THAT INGRES, IF YOU DECIDE TO FINISH IT...:) ...Just had to redo the hands on my Ingres painting...made them too small...thought I was done with it, but you know how that goes...LOL..:scream:

Hello Mr Sol,
Just a (friendly) reminder to remind you to finish off the Expose entry in time....
Or else I will be forced to make a few phonecalls...

To Rose!

Mwahahahah!

The Ingres copy is looking fantastic! You have to finish that one..(or else..you know)
The boxers are very cool too. The one with the blue background (that background is making him look so iconic) seems to be missing the trapezius on (our) left side and the whole of the left side seems a little too low. Not sure though, I'm not an expert on anatomy so take it with a sackful of salt :D
