View Full Version : looping particle system - how to?
coccosoids 05-09-2006, 01:01 PM do you have any ideas on how to easily set up a looping particle system?
by loop i mean : a segment of frames that when played back in a loop doesn't show any beginning or end...
thank you

You have to change the cycle emission attribute (inside the emitter attributes) from "None" to "Frame" and then choose a certain frame number to interval the cycle, also notice that your particle emission will then look like trails. You can then use fields (eg. turbulence) to sort of "break" the pattern.
Hope this helps! ;)

aha... i glanced at that option for a bit... i have another thing in mind: if i set cycle emission to 30 frames then leave it running for about 120 frames > then the 120-150 frames segment would be looping correctly?
i don't have acces to maya right now but is there an option on the field to match the cycling on the emitter?
thank you

old one from tom kluysken i think (might have been duncan as well):
-create your particles.
-define the time you want them to cycle (e.g. 100 frames (pal 25fps))
-set the lifespan to "constant" and for the time set 100frames (=4 sec in this case)
-play the simulation to frame 100 and stop there.
-"set initial state" for the particle system
viola they loop
cheers
