View Full Version : Pond in The Dark Forest

Hi Everybody,

I've been visiting the forums for a few years now, and am finally putting up my own work. So let me take this chance to introduce myself, and say "Hi!"

Now, let's move onto the art! This project is supposed to be a forest scene of some kind. I thought I'd make it a forest at night, with the moonlight shining onto a pretty pond inviting you to come out from the darkness.

This is what I have so far:


Version 1:
This is closer to how the lighting will look in the final composition.

Version 2:
I'm going back in this version and changing the placement of some elements before redoing the lighting again. I'm working on the rocks in this one. The stump with roots growing over the rocks in the left will still be there, but I just haven't put in the reworked version yet.

I'll now show some the different versions I went through in order to get to where I am now. I'll have to skip a few because I try to save a new version once I think I did something big to it, and I think people are more interested in where I am currently at with the project.

Which brings me to the current two versions:

This one is pretty close as to how I'm going to have the lighting, but I think the rocks need to be moved more to the left, and redone because........... I dont' think they look like rocks.

In this one, I went back to one of the previous versions I saved, and tried to flesh out the shape of the pond/bog/whatever you call that body of water:

Hi Janda,

The pond itself is lovely. Very nice feel there with the water and the light streaming through.

Could you show me how you made the surface of the water?

Compositionally I really hate that big black tree stump in the front. I made some compositional suggestions here to bring out the pond more

I agree with you about the large black stump, which is why I removed it. I like the silhouetted foliage that you suggested, they look much better than the rough ones I currently have in. I'll try to post a different version with a smaller version of the stump later on, where it won't look like a blot on the screen. Later tonight I'll post how I made the water.

Here's a screenshot of what the image looked like when I imported it over to Flash. I put some crickets chirping and moving fireflies. Screenshot below.
