View Full Version : CgTalk Daily Sketch 702 THE 30 MINUTE SKETCH: "Gladiators"
RobertoOrtiz 05-08-2006, 02:01 PM "Gladiators"
by Lady Medusa
These are the rules:
You have 30, (count them 30!) minutes to do your sketch. IF you go beyond the
assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has
expired, along with the FINAL drawing.
Also, I will add a new voting category, called THE FASTEST DRAW.
Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
They can be done on any medium.
If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.
Good luck
-Roberto

30 minutes, PS+Wacom. I was going to do something quite different (non-traditional Gladiators) but couldn't decide on a color scheme, so here's something boring. My first daily sketch submission, I hope to do more of these. Man, I draw slow xD I doubt I'll go back to work on this more, but the other idea might show up again.

Okay here's my second. I've been working on it on and off since I posted the last one and it's waaaaaaaaaay over time. Like 4 hours or something crazy like that. I wanted to post it anyway though, just to get in my bit of drama. And because I worked on it for so long. Pfff. See, this is why speed painting is good for me. I always get bogged down in the details...
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b35/JArcand/Art/Gladiator2.jpg
Adobe Photoshop (with a little bit of dust from Painter). This is why it took me so much longer than usual. And why it's not blended as well as it might be. I think I'm going to stick with Painter.

Vizon, your sig is particularly appropriate today :)
Ohhh didn't think about that. Heh heh - that reminds me - I often call the news helicopters here "vultures" as they are always looking for and circling horrible car accidents (there are a lot of them in Phoenix). I didn't think about it until now, but people are still kind of like the Colussium-goers in that that's the kind of News they're going to be captivated by (not to mention the huge traffic jams caused by rubber-necking onlookers). People (and I must include myself in this) are still fascinated by violence and death. Kind of like the zebras on the discovery channel that stare at the lions taking down another zebra. "Wow...that looks really painful and hideous..." **gawk**
I try not to add to the traffic jamming though. If anything such a wreck should remind you to keep your eyes on the road.

Man, how do you people do such great work so fast? And, you know, so good? I'm fairly new to the digital sketching thing so I don't know about any cool brushes, I just use flat ones, hehe. Anyways, I ran out of time, here's what I had after 35 minutes:

How can we tell that's a girl?
long hair and sort of feminine face? I drew it as a girl, although, when you mention it, it does look like it could be either one^^
