View Full Version : Modelling a bird - help!
Torador 05-08-2006, 01:57 PM For a project I'm working on, I need to model a bird in XSI, and it's proving tricky. I'm going to use box modelling for it, but at one point in the scene the bird needs to fly.
Does anyone have any tutorials for modelling birds?

I dont know how detailed your model needs to be...
A basic bird is very fast created from a lores sphere.
Stretch it, extrude the poles multiple times for had and tale,
tweak it till it looks good, then extrude one line of side polys
for each wing, tweak in top viewport.
For a realistic model create planes with opacity maps for feathers
and arange em on the model.
Rig wings and close em towards the body.
Animate it...
If you need fast results, dont even rig the model, but assign a bend
deformer on both wings at once, with the deformation centered on
the body and animate bend direction up and down...
though its very simple it gives a pretty natural motion.
