thanks SubDimension, but this actually is LightWave :)
no plugins involved.

that rain looks really good, the ocean is pretty good too, although it's still clearly cg, but i love the lightwave textures... so good, although possibly... is it DNT?
nicely done anyway

Very nice looking!!! I'm interested in what you used as your displacement map for the large rolling waves... I'm also making water and have had trouble creating the larger rolling waves... Your help would be appreciated!
Here's what I have so far...
the following requires DivX 5.0

As SubDimension said it look a bit like fluid effects that comes with Maya 4.5 Unlimited. And a just wanted to show what you get whit out effort, it’s all in the Maya help.
Now days you can make cooler stuff without even knowing how.
Maya fluid example (http://www.sigtor.com/oceanSwells.mpg)
But the atmosphere you got impresses me more.

mdme_sadie: what is DNT?
oxygen_77: I'm working on a video tute for this whole scene. One little tip on the road: don't constrain your displacement maps movement to the XZ plane; move it on the Y axis slightly too... you'll see. I like what you have so far, looks like Crumple as a displacement map. Try a bigger scaled Turbulence underneith it.
sigtor: yeah, it's pretty amazing what we can do by just pressing a button nowadays, the "make beautiful render" button is still missing though =P

philip,
I haven't used any Displacement yet on my waves. I only used a bump map with as you guessed, crumple. I also included a color gradient set to bump for the froth... I was waiting to see what you used as a displacement for your main rolling waves because I couldn't find anything that looked, umm... like it rolled enough... Once I find a good displacement I'll use that for the main Y-axis motion with the other bump maps used as extra current movement. Hope that made sense... Anyway, thanks for the reply.

DNT = Digital Nature Tools, the makers of Nature FX, i should ahve said Nature FX really, the colour of the ocean looks very convincing. Good work :)

ok, I have finished the tutorial on this scene.
It turned out being 3 movies of about 30 minutes each.
If all goes well, it should be up by sunday. I'll post details then.
