i like everything except for the way the flipper things are attached to the main fish body
Cool Randy
I agree about the fins, make the insertion point to the body wider so that they can propel the fish forward,at the moment the connection with the body would not allow the fin to move the fish forward,it would not be strong enough :)

Are you using that modeling tutorial book by Bill Flemming?

Not bad for starting out!
Consider your proportions for the entire subject now that you have all the parts.
The lips could use a bit more collagen (fatter).
The rear tail is far too small in comparison to the major fins.
The spikes on his head are cool. If you going to keep it that sparse however, consider making them longer (a lot longer). If you want to keep it short, consider adding a few more and then varying the heights a little. Break a couple off as well.
The "lure" coming from his head seems a little to thick. The bulb on the end could be bigger in turn?
The bumps on his belly seem a little too deliberate. Soften those a lot. Look at the front view, it's almost geometric.
Gills? Should he have or need gills?
The eyes are key, they should bee much bigger and little closer together. You will have to look at a couple of variations on this to get the right feel so that he "comes alive".
Great start! Keep showing us the progress!

foxogo - Yes and No. I had read that chapter in Bill"s book recently and that was the basis for the model, but I did not follow it exactly.
medula - Good suggestions. I used Matrix Extrude for the spikes and really can't add more unless I make my mesh denser(sp?). Not sure if I want that. I was also thinking about redoing the tail section to mack more of what was in Bill Flemings book.
Thanks!
