View Full Version : Need Video card suggestions
zkydz 03-10-2002, 01:31 AM I'm looking at purchasing a new system and here are the specs so far:
Dual 1.53 Ghz AMD processors
Tyan Tiger Motherboard
2 gig 266 Mhz DDR RAM
100 Gig HD
The thing I'm looking at is a killer (well, budgetable killer video) Video Card. I kinda like what I saw with the ELSA Gloria DCC with 64 MB DDR. However, I was wondering what te good folks here have to say about this. Any thoughts about this would be appreciated :)

Believe the hype -- Elsa Gloria DCC will live up to your expectation if you want performance.

Got to www.pricewatch.com for prices. Usually its between $600-700.
3dlabs cards are great as well. GVX1 is priced resonably. Although the new wildacat and the oxygen gvx420 are my present favorites. Wildcat is too pricey ill admit but if its a work machine, try the oxy. I have a couple of them.

One of the bonus with the Elsa Gloria DCC card is that you get spectacular performances for 3D and 2D. Which will come in handy when you're working in Photoshop and compositing (After Effects, Shake). Unlike the Wildcat and Oxygen that perform great results for 3D exclusively.

how do you guys think the geForce 4 TI 4600 will stack up against the Elsa cards? I mean after all they are half the price...and so far my GeForce 2 has been pretty good (well for the price anyway)
just wondering how game cards perform against the big boys...again for the price.
I really havent had any complaints in the 2d area with the oxygens. The drivers dont include any special instruction set, but with a system like that it should be fine. One of ours is just a dual 1.2MP Athlon. Runs great with after effect and combustion.
Just to be clear....I do agree the dcc is cool since it enhances 2d as well as 3d, but if you run 3d even part of the time....I'll take the seed where its most needed cause 3d definitly sucks the resources.
Just opinion. Both options are great cards.

We recently had a similar question on CGChat, and it seems that NVidia cards that haven't been cleared for use with 3DS MAX4 and MAYA (coupled with the SoftQuadro patch) perform quite well, with very few users experiencing any problems.
I suppose we'll see how well GeForce 4's will perform against the Elsa Gloria DCC in a few weeks.
