[[okay this is the story so far..... civilization has reached the max attainable on earth so we had to move and forge our way into outer space and find other places to call our own. Because of the mass expenses of space ships each group only has one chance and every space shuttle is crammed with as many people as possible to hopefully found a fresh start and an advancing civilization.

This is the first successful of these landings and people have prospered here exploring the world and creating a technology wonder.]]

this is done in: MAYA

so far i have only spent about an hour on this, i hope to actually finish this one.

that bottom plane it grows out of? is that ground or water or whatever? i'd definitely optimize that so you can better utilize polys with the actual centerpiece of the model. you're wasting a lot of edge rows & things down there for no real reason. if it is ocean surface, i'd suggest splitting it from the cliffface. that way you can still have a tileable ocean surface that could only be split a couple times. it would intersect but that wouldn't be terrible. i'm not an expert but then maybe you could try having some particles around the base for waves?? then the cliffs too could extend further down underneath, like an actual landmass. but definitely get rid of those unused verts.
since it's an actual environment, i'd suggest getting in tight & altering the details & maybe some interiors & whatnot.

ill_logic--- cheers... i am definately not done with this and i am going to clean up the ground majorly. It will be an ocean around the base, but i still have to put in a couple more islands.

I have finally redone the landscape took out some polys and put in a simple ocean shader... more pics soon..

still, any advice on the rocks would be paramount.

i will also add some interiors to the buildings in due time

Looking good, got any wire shots of the update? I assume you are going to be modelling bridges between the rock areas?
