Hello.
Originally this piece was meant for practise, I am still working on many parts of it. One day I bumped into this site and decided that I could expand the painting in order to fit the theme.
But the original piece doesn't have the right composition or enough atmosphere to represent the begin of a journey, so I did a few sketch on it, which explain the more detailed parts of the overall sketch. I'm not sure if I would get disqualified for that, so I made a second sketch based on the original settings.
Anyway, in this painting, I tried to picture the viewer AS the 'hero' for this epic journey. With the hanging bridge as the first step of your journey into this mysterious city and forest.

This is the second concept that I came up with based on the settings of the first sketch.
Once again, I pit the viewer as the 'hero' for this epic journey who is about to venture across the hanging bridge to the city of unknown and the forest beyond.
PS: I'm still fiddling around with composition and perspective to get the sense of epic.

your perspective in this updated concept sketch is much more bold and innovative than the first pass -- am looking forward to seeing this piece as it evolves....

Summary for 3rd concept: after much thought, I've decided that, in the first two concept, I'm not having enough aspect of the JOURNEY one of the elements for this theme, which is the JOURNEY itself, the BEGINNINGS of it and the sense of EPIC emotions that transcend the adventurer and viewer alike.
In my imagination, the bright lights faraway in the first two concept represent the edge of Forest and passage to the Kingdoms of Light. Due to the limited composition, I was unable to capture the feel of a very, very long journey towards the other end, so I tried another approach. Instead of going straight, we go up, up the huge Mothertree of all things ancient.
Hence, this - where civilizations Live inside. And, at the very top of the tree lies the Utopia-City.
Visual Concept: It touches heaven and it takes a day for one to complete the journey across its girth. for the right feel, it's important that viewers know that we are looking from a hanging stonebridge that's connected to the MIDDLE of the tree trunk. If one may look down, their eyes will be greeted by miles and miles of darkness toward the bottom.

I worked on the idea of the previous concept and did a few changes. Mainly, because I'm afraid that the "other" trees might draw too much focus from the theme of a world tree concept. So, I lowered the canopy of the "other" trees to the same height as the viewer, which at the same time, address my other concern of not having enough space (composition-wise) to potray the 'end point' of the journey, ie. the Utopia-City.
