View Full Version : Nvidia 4500 Fx x2 questioning buying
Levitateme 05-06-2006, 11:22 AM My friend wants to build a really powerful machine. He wants a machine that will be great at gaming and rendering. He is looking at the Nvidia 4500 fx x2, we use XSI, MAYA, Zbrush and 3dmax. We are working on a short film, we would like to have a videocard that can handle pretty much anything. We tried looking online for reviews about this card, but saw mostly autoCAD references, or scientific application references. Can anyone recommend a videocard that would suit us? The system really isn't meant to be for gaming, i don't know how we can have a fair balance between 3d, and gaming, but could someone give us advice on why we might or might not want this card? or a videocard anyone recommends? i told my friend that $3000 for a videocard is insane, i'm sure there HAS to be something out there much more reasonable and realistic for what we're doing. I assumed that this 4500 card would be used for medical purposes or something, i'm not sure if we would need something so insane. any advice would be much appreciated.

I have a similar question:
Other than the Quad dual-link DVI outputs and the 1 GB total texture memory ... would the extra 4500 GPU in the X2 be helpful in any 3d apps such as Maya and Max? Or is that extra GPU only needed for software like Gelato and driving an extra 30" supported display?
Cheers!

Initially I thought you were talking about using two Quadro 4500FX cards but then realized that 4500FX X2 is a completely new card! Insane! Does it take up just one PCI slot?

personally, I'm not interested in running a dual 30" setup but I'd like to see Autodesk and the other software "providers" get off thier asses  and make use of SLI and eventually multiple core GPU hardware... I rancor viewport lag!!!
... anyway, with 2 GPU's per card that gives one the hopes of someday having a quad SLI setup and actually being able to make use of all those GPU's in unison for working instead of gaming (not that anything's bad with gaming... I'd just like 4 GPU's for work ~ silly and drunk me!)
...someong cut me off ~ $5 pitchers of Guiness is dangerous : ):thumbsup::buttrock:
Edit: had to ... was drink and still am :bounce: . . . orig post made sense despite the 2nd guessing. . . is he bouncing for you... not for me... damn tease!
